Summary

Combining the suspense of The Outsider with the childhood camaraderie in It, The Institute is a powerful new novel from Stephen King which is destined to become the number one blockbuster of autumn 2019.

Deep in the woods of Maine, there is a dark state facility where kids, abducted from across the United States, are incarcerated. In the Institute they are subjected to a series of tests and procedures meant to combine their exceptional gifts - telepathy, telekinesis - for concentrated effect.

Luke Ellis is the latest recruit. He's just a regular 12-year-old, except he's not just smart, he's super-smart. And he has another gift which the Institute wants to use....

Far away in a small town in South Carolina, former cop Tim Jamieson has taken a job working for the local Sheriff. He's basically just walking the beat. But he's about to take on the biggest case of his career.

Back in the Institute's downtrodden playground and corridors where posters advertise 'just another day in paradise', Luke, his friend Kalisha and the other kids are in no doubt that they are prisoners, not guests. And there is no hope of escape.

But great events can turn on small hinges, and Luke is about to team up with a new, even younger recruit, Avery Dixon, whose ability to read minds is off the scale. While the Institute may want to harness their powers for covert ends, the combined intelligence of Luke and Avery is beyond anything that even those who run the experiments - even the infamous Mrs Sigsby - suspect.

Thrilling, suspenseful, heartbreaking, The Institute is a stunning novel of childhood betrayed and hope regained.

Fantastic listen

I absolutely love the narrator. I’ve listened to other books he’s read and the way he brings each character to life with a subtle and believable difference in tone and pace is brilliant.

The story is one that kept me listening sometimes for a few hours at a time as I was immersed and couldn’t wait to find out what happened next. It was an amazing story and I’d definitely recommend.

Perfect audible book

I loved the narration! It brought the book to life. Got a bit long and it felt like there were multiple endings but still a good, classic King novel.

A book worthy of a listen

Had a few slip ups in recording and repeats itself a few times
the story slogs mid way through, and Kings writing does seem faster written compared to say game of thrones and depth therfore is missing compared to those other writers.

however it is a gripping tail that kept me wanting to find out the conclusion and has a premise that was quite interesting and deals with a very grand question as the over arching reason of why the institute may or may not have been necessary. all good books should teach you something without needing to spoon feed you like a non fiction, and this book achieves this.

so overall this is a very good book to listen to and I would recommend it.

Classic Stephen King

Stephen King is often hit or miss for me. some of his work I think is incredible stories with rich characters. whereas others can feel meandering and lazy. The Institute however is definitely one of Kings stronger pieces of work. With incredible characters and a story which keep you gripped from page 1, this will go down among kings best works. Plus the narrator Santino Fontana is absolutely wonderful

Stephen King hasn't lost his magic touch...

If this was in book form, I wouldn't have been able to put it down, as it was, I kept sneaking off to have a quick listen to see what happened next.

Can't Finish

I used to love reading Stephen King,. Robin Cook and Michael Crichton novels, well, years ago.
Trouble is I still remember the first book I read. I obviously was much younger then and I read "Coma" . Brilliant book, and I love reading medical thrillers.
Since then I had to have lots of operations and I always asked
the anaesthetist what operating theatre was I going in, I always said that I didn't want to go in room 8! It would have been simpler if they'd have told me that there wasn't a theatre 8 from the beginning! I loved the book but I didn't read anymore of his novels because that is how realistic they are. (either that or I am paranoid!) So when I
started listening to it,
