Summary

The Human is the final, thrilling, book in Neal Asher’s Rise of the Jain trilogy.

Their enemy seems unbeatable. But humanity is indomitable.... A Jain warship has risen from a prison five million years old, wielding a hoard of lethal technology. Its goal is to catch their old enemy, the Client, and it will destroy all who stand in its path. Humanity and the prador thought their mutual nemesis – the bane of so many races – was long extinct. But the Jain are back and Orlandine must prepare humanity’s defence. She needs the Client’s knowledge to counter this ancient threat. But is the enemy of your enemy a friend?

Earth Central even looks to the prador for alliance. These old enemies must now learn to trust one another, or face utter annihilation. As the Jain warship crosses the galaxy, it seems unstoppable. Human and prador forces alike struggle to withstand its devastating weaponry – far in advance of their own. And Orlandine’s life’s work has been to neutralise Jain technology, so if she can’t triumph, no one can. But could she become what she’s vowed to destroy?

Good finale

The end of the story arc, interesting dynamics between core characters. Love the fact that the most interesting characters aren't human.

Enjoyable Listen

Being a Neal Asher fan, I enjoy his novels. The world's of the polity & prador are worlds I enjoy reading and listening to, so thoroughly enjoyed listening to this novel in audio form

fantastic conclusion

really enjoyed the conclusion to this story. it moved beyond the earlier micro stories if you like from the agent cormac series and headed straight into humanity ending doom. I just miss the original narrator. this narrator is probably better. but its the way he did it. "quince guide compiled *sigh* by humans (in an exasperated tone). although the absence of a major player for most of the story was weird.

This book got me through Lockdown

A detailed technical read which needed concentration. I rationed it throughout the initial Lockdown and it was honestly something that kept me going each day. Thank you Neal Asher.

Classic Neal Asher

With “The Human” Asher is back at the top of his game with über tech, giant space battles, undefeatable enemies a romping but logical plot and some great complex diverse characters.

A good read made great by the narrator

This latest in Neal Asher’s sprawling Polity books is,as ever, a great listen.

I won’t mention the story, you’ll have already read the blurb, but I have to bring special attention to Peter Noble’s superb narration. His pace and voice characterisations really bring the story to life. I can’t wait to find other books he has narrated.
