Critic reviews

"The writing is as smooth as polished steel, and the small touches that reveal character, especially the memorable Hen, approach genius. This is Lovesey at his best." (Publishers Weekly)

The House Sitter

Another great Peter Diamond story. In this book we meet Hen Mallen (sp?). The recording is odd in places but that doesn't detract. Very enjoyable. If you like Peter Diamond I think you'll like this book.

The House Sitter

Considering the unexciting location and uninspiring characters this book will keep you guessing until the end. Easy going, not too indepth, it makes a great holiday read. All things considered a good book, but don't expect the greatest masterpiece you have ever listened to!

Small research quibble

Not a bad story and decent delivery by Steve Hodson but the author clearly didn’t do proper research into archery. He would have you think there are only two disciplines of archery - crossbow or longbow but in fact, as even the most basic research would have shown, the most popular form of archery uses the recurve bow. Minor point in the story but irritating to an archer.

The House Sitter

Initially I found this a little slow to grab my attention but please persevere- this book has a good balance of witty lines from the characters and yet retaining above that a good storyline. Ultimately, I found myself relishing long drives to listen to more and leaving the office early for appointments so I could listen to as much as possible: the mark of a good download.

Rough Diamond

A good story with plenty of twists, well-paced and very much up to the Peter Lovesy standard.

A new Author

This is the first Peter Lovesay I've read/listened to, and it was a really good story. The action was fast-paced enough to keep me interested, yet detailed enough that you got a good mental picture of the characters. I too guessed the 'baddie' towards the end, but it didn't detract from the overall thrill of the book.

I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys a crime 'whodunnit' book.

Great story spoiled by really poor quality recording

Why is there no quality control on audible? A good yarn ruined by the recording.

AND THIS IS A BBC PRODUCTION?

I like the Diamond series however the pleasure was reduced not by the narrator but the poor sound quality and consistency.
