Wilhemina 'Billie' Bennett, red-haired daughter of an American millionaire, loves golf, dogs, and Tennyson ¿ and is to marry Eustace Hignett, the weak, poetry-writing son of a famous English writer on theosophy. Enter San Marlowe, Eustace's tournament golfing cousin, and Jane Hubbard, Billie's big-game-hunting friend, and another romp in the inimitable Wodehouse style unfolds.

Critic reviews

"Has many of the qualities of the author's more mature later novels (eccentric characters, clever farce, and inventive metaphors), as well as the additional charm of being a diamond in the rough....Frederick Davidson, as usual, adds to the fun with his energetic reading." (Library Journal)

Cracking read

Loved it, Wodehouse at his best, full of intrigue, nonsense and a hoot to boot.

Loved this. Narrator great. Wodehouse humour and 1920s life. He has a fabulous way with words.

BEST NARRATOR EVER!

Exceptionally good characterisations, all by the one voice actor. Absolutely hilarious, hits every time, a staggering achievement!

Second Time

Read (or rather listened to) this one before but it is still as funny and fresh as the first time.

Very enjoyable

I really enjoyed this book and will listen to it again in future years. Its central characters are very likeable, and the book is genuinely funny, I sometimes laughed out loud. I think it is better than the Jeeves and Wooster stories. It is very interesting and enjoyable to go back to a different age, 1922. The narrator is excellent, as is the sound quality.

Funny

Laughing makes me feel so good and PG Wodehouse makes me laugh. His use of the English language is brilliant.

Not his best…

…but nevertheless very witty and laugh out loud in spots. Not so keen on this narrator though.

Wonderful Wodehouse

Great plot, not just farce. As good as Jeeves and Wooster. Very funny turns of phrase and the narrator delivered them perfectly.

Not a classic

A relatively early PG Wodehouse story. The story itself isn’t one of his best but there’s still plenty to smile about
