Summary

Neil Josten is the newest addition to the Palmetto State University Exy team. He's short, he's fast, he's got a ton of potential - and he's the runaway son of the murderous crime lord known as the Butcher.

Signing a contract with the PSU Foxes is the last thing a guy like Neil should do. The team is high profile, and he doesn't need sports crews broadcasting pictures of his face around the nation. His lies will hold up only so long under this kind of scrutiny, and the truth will get him killed.

But Neil's not the only one with secrets on the team. One of Neil's new teammates is a friend from his old life, and Neil can't walk away from him a second time.

Neil has survived the last eight years by running. Maybe he's finally found someone and something worth fighting for.

Do not judge me.

I first read this in 2017 and I think I've thought about this once a month since. I rated it 2 stars the first time I read but on re-read...it's not better, exactly, but I most certainly enjoyed it more. Is this badly written, obnoxiously full of wild inaccurate stereotypes and horrible mental health/sports rep? Yes, all of those things remain true, but do I love it and will I fight people over how much I love it and the Foxes? You betcha.

Slow introduction to a great series

Foxhole court is obviously the first book in a trilogy, and it takes about 1/2 the book before the story starts properly developing.

A lot of people complain about the mental health representation in this series but as someone with severe MH problems myself I love it completely, unfortunately the narrator also takes a while to get into his stride but again when he gets going its great .

Loved it!

Such a short and powerful start to the series. Check trigger warnings before reading because it deals with some dark topics but I wholeheartedly recommend this trilogy

amazing book, absolutely loved it for the nth time

I love the books, but right now didn't have the time to reread it, so I gave audiobooks a try. The gentleman who read it took me by surprise, needed a few chapters to get used to his voice. But overall it was a pleasant experience

lots of crime, lots of angst

a really fun very angsty book about a made up sport and gangs running university sports teams.
very chaotic, very fun
just some tw drugging and kissing w/o consent, and lots of violence.
the voice acting is great, easy to follow up in dialog, and pretty good range.
this is definitely YA so set expectations accordingly.
very fun nonetheless.

Good story, meh narrator

I liked the story, characters and dialogue and I'm interested to see where it goes.

HOWEVER... I wish they had cast a younger man to narrate the 18-year-old main character who now he sounds about 40. And the narrator's female voices sound like constipated gremlins; genuinely awful and extremely embarrassing.
