Summary

The gritty new thriller from the Queen of Crime Drama and the fifth book in the Sunday Times best-selling Jane Tennison series.

Jane Tennison has worked hard to become the first female detective ever posted to the infamous Flying Squad, or 'the Sweeney'. But the Dirty Dozen is a notorious boys' club, and Jane's new colleagues make it clear that they don't think a woman is up to the dangers of the job.

Dealing with some of London's most ruthless armed criminals, who think the only good cop is a dead cop, is no joke. Determined to prove she's as good as the men, Jane discovers from a reliable witness that a gang is going to carry out a massive robbery.

But she doesn't know who they are, or where and when they will strike....

Dreadful narration

The nation made everybody sound angry and arrogant even in situations that didn’t warrant it. It made the main character out to be a very bitter woman

Cracking story

Great next chapter in the Jane Tennison story. The narration is beginning to grate, however (just a bit too deliberate and evocative of lace doilies and crisp white table cloths) as are the constant references to 'hoping to be accepted as part of the team' and -'the importance of the investigation' - we get it and it doesn't need spelling out every few pages....
Having said that, the plot was great and I shall continue my Tennison Odyssey.

Great story lines

I am patiently wading my way through this series: waiting for the moment when I can finally enjoy mostly great, sometimes only good story lines and good narrative style, but sadly always let down by often atrocious attempts at Scottish or Irish accents, or, even worse, women narrators trying badly for a ‘male’, of colour, accent. Please, please: this author deserves better treatment and more respect: give her books a narrator who can do her justice! The ONLY reason I continue with this is the actual story line, but you know: this is fast becoming a deal breaker for audible: I’ll go back to reading my own books instead of listening to such dire narrators! One is worse than the one before! Now at book 7, God give me patience and understanding!

Good story, poor narration

Probably the worst narration I’ve come across, sadly. The emphasis was all wrong, dramatic pauses in the middle of sentences & fairly rubbish accents. Glad I stuck with it to the end though, as I enjoyed the story.

Such a great listen x

I really enjoyed this story.
The narration was superb, despite what other listeners have said I think Laura did a great job, I wouldn't be able to do it so thank you Laura for bringing this book to life.
Well done Linda x
Jane Tennison has become one of me mates I love how she has a no bullshit type of attitude and just shows that a woman can do a man's job in the flying squad x

Narration let this book down

It took a while to get into as the narration was terrible. The narration was hammy and childlike.

Weak accents by reader

Well read but very dodgy accents. Also includes misreading of abbreviations such as OBO. Both these were distracting from what was overall a good listen.
