Summary

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts comes a novel about a woman who needs nothing, a man who sees everything, and the web of deceit, greed and danger that brings them together - and could tear them apart...

When professional house-sitter Lila Emerson witnesses a murder/suicide from her current apartment-sitting job, life as she knows it takes a dramatic turn. Suddenly, the woman with no permanent ties finds herself almost wishing for one...

Artist Ashton Archer knows his brother isn’t capable of violence - against himself or others. He recruits Lila, the only eyewitness, to help him uncover what happened. Chalking up their intense attraction to the heat of the moment, Lila agrees to help Ash try to find out who murdered his brother and why. From the penthouses of Manhattan to grand Italian villas, their investigation draws them into a rarefied circle where priceless antiques are bought, sold, gambled away and stolen; where what you possess is who you are; and where what you desire becomes a deadly obsession...

Critic reviews

“Roberts is performing at the top of her literary game…An addictive blend of sleek suspense and sophisticated romance that would make Hitchcock proud.”—Booklist (starred review)

“A pair of strong, commitment-averse protagonists, vividly drawn villains—a classy, stunningly beautiful, sociopathic assassin and a soulless recluse, in particular—an abundance of Fabergé egg history and a plot that keeps readers on edge add up to another classic for Roberts.”—Library Journal

“Sizzling suspense…Will keep readers riveted.”—Publishers Weekly

Not my usual type of book

Not the type of book I usually listen to but what is wrong with a bit of escapism. Who wouldn't want to meet a rich, handsome, considerate artist and have an adventure with him? Light listening if you do not want to concentrate too much

Fabulous book wonderful characters, couldn't put this one down. What an exciting if predictable read. What I enjoyed most about this Nora Roberts was the different characters.

Has it all.

Mystery, intrigue, love romance, sex and a psychotic killer, what more could you ask for? Nora Roberts is a skilled writer, crafting visual scenes with words, characters so real you relate and can see yourself friends with ( not the psycho), descriptions of feelings and motivations that draw you in and make you support the main characters.
I enjoyed the narration, I’ve listened to Julia Whelan before and she is good at imbuing personality into the reading. I really enjoyed this book and am sure you will too.
Be aware it is an adult relationship and while the sex is not graphically depicted it is experienced and you will read their expressions rather then the mechanics of sex.

The best Book I've listened to in ages

What made the experience of listening to The Collector the most enjoyable?

I couldn't stop listening, waiting to find out how things would pan out.

What other book might you compare The Collector to, and why?

Thats a difficult question to answer as I have very poor memory and listen to so many books but The French Gardener by Santi Montefore has always come up in my top 5 list.

What about Julia Whelan’s performance did you like?

Everything. Cant fault it.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Gripping, romantic but with an edge.

Any additional comments?

Thoroughly enjoyed this and it took me away from my own thoughts and troubles. won't spoil it for anyone but it keeps you on edge all the way to the end. Now want to read another but not sure what to go for next.

Audible You Keep The Black Dog away in the Middle of my Nights. Love you Audible you are the best and I think you deserve to remain the best.

An enjoyable listen, but not Nora at her best

I like the narrator, Julia Whelan, and picked this book after listening to other books narrated by her. Overall it was an enjoyable listen, I would just say don't examine the plot too closely. If you are inclined you could poke several holes in the plot, personally I just accepted it for what it was and enjoyed it.

Totally absorbing

Yet again Nora Roberts pulls you into a great story and you find that you don't want to stop listening as it is so absorbing, but then as you near the end you find yourself wishing it was part of a series so that you can continue in their lives.

Not wanting to print any spoilers I will just say that the story is fast with turns and bends - its a bit like a modern day Heart to Heart story but with out the dog and Max
