Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
The thrilling sequel to Texas Ranger.
Rory Yates of the Texas Rangers doesn't seek out hero status, but it's unavoidable once his girlfriend, country singer Willow Dawes, writes a song about his bravery.
Rory escapes his newfound fame when he's sent to the remote West Texas town of Rio Lobo to investigate the death a local councilwoman. Local detective Ariana Delgado is convinced that this seemingly accidental death is actually a murder.
Rory begins to uncover a tangle of small-town secrets and lies. To get to the truth, he's forced to step outside the law he has dedicated his life to upholding.
Now, while Rory is tracking a killer, the Texas Rangers are tracking him....

Gripping
Excellent story and performance that has you hooked from start to finish. Strong characters brought to life so vividly you can picture them in your minds eye. I've never been to Texas, or even America come to that, but after listening to that story I feel that I have, so rich were the descriptions in the narrative.

Most Enjoyable Book for Ages
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, listening in one go. Great characters, twists and turns, just a romping, stomping good book.

Humourless and cliched
This story is bit like a fifties/sixties comic strip. The hero is a Texas Ranger, righteous and square jawed. He’s like a Boy Scout.
The baddies are also stereotypical. A small town drug baron and his ex military psychopathic son. The love interests are of course, flawless, beautiful goddesses who remain chaste throughout.
The plot glosses over all sorts of improbabilities. In the end the Texas Ranger overcomes adversity and the baddies. The only mild surprise is that he doesn’t get either girl. They were lucky to escape!
Apart from this it’s predictable. There is no humour (except occasional unintentional amusement)
