Summary
Spain, August 1810
The English army faces ruin in Spain – and the Duke of Wellington is desperate for money to fund the war. Only a cache of hidden Spanish gold can save them. And only Captain Richard Sharpe has the cunning to capture it.
In the treacherous terrain of the Portuguese hills, with rain sweeping the peninsula, a powerful guerrilla leader holds possession of the gold. And risking everything for the ultimate prize – for his honour, for his army’s fate – is Sharpe . . .

‘The best battle scenes of any writer I’ve ever read, past or present. Cornwell really makes history come alive.’ George R.R. Martin

Another Adventure
Pulp fiction or mills and boon for men. Usual ripping yarn. Looking forward to hearing the next.

Sharpe's At It Again!
This series is simply great stuff, real Boys' Own style adventures and Sharpe's Gold is no exception. Sharpe is drawn like a magnet to history's most explosive moments and no more so than in this one. This is a man who can take on all manner of enemies at long odds and come up trumps, though often at personal cost to himself.
This time he's sent on an impossible mission and in El Catholico he meets a charismatic and stylish partisan who is as deadly as Sharpe himself. Of course, this is Sharpe, a man who can march for days in high temperatures without a wash and still have more luck with the opposite sex than most people do in their best togs in the UKs clubs and bars on a Saturday night! Cornwell could make millions more revealing how he does it!
In reality, if you've enjoyed the previous eight books in the series and want some more then Sharpe's Gold hits the spot!

Sharpe's Gold
Great story with admiral research. Must say the ending sagged somewhat. Didn't like the bed hopping part. It made Sharpe somewhat shallow. Overall it was a good and interesting story

Another stonker
Yet another of Sharpe’s adventures told beautifully by Rupert (I feel like I know him). Excitement, romance (Al though admittedly a little questionable in the lady’s side switching) action, loyalty and another great villain. I honestly get anxiety when I imagine finishing this series. I love it so much

2nd of the series - good - but not as good as 1st
This is a good solid story with just enough to keep you listening. Characters from the series are easy to follow with just a little repetition. New characters are a little hollow and straining to buy into. The story is slow and some battle sequences are long and slow down the pace of the book. It’s not as good as the first but if you’re doing the entire series (the only reason you’d be here) you’ll get through it - so you know where you are in the next instalment.
It’s excellently narrated. Well produced. Entertaining. Worth it.

Theresa
In the books this is where we meet Theresa, Sharpes tv love. But the story is more, greed, desperation, fight and flight, and a decision of huge morality. Expertly written, each chapter leading to more intensity. Richard Sharpe is a great hero, but he has friends willing to follow him, and from theses characters we learn snippets of history which show the detailed research taken before writing even starts. This then shows why Cornwell has been the master of historical fiction for nearly half a century.

good - found it a little drawn out at times
after the excellent Sharpe's Eagle, i found this one a little dull at times - only really recovering in the last quarter of the book. i did enjoy it overall, and it hasnt put me off continuing with Sharpe
