Summary
India, December 1803
The British army are closing in on enemy troops in western India and Ensign Richard Sharpe, freshly promoted yet unsure of his position, finds himself vulnerable: he’s unwelcome among the officers, yet finds hidden enemies within the ranks. With no-one he can trust, Sharpe is in serious danger when an old adversary arrives on his trail – and a terrible act of betrayal draws him into the eye of the storm.
All roads lead to Gawilghur, a legendary, impregnable fortress in the sky. In the heart of enemy territory, the British carry out a near-impossible siege. And joining the front line, risking his honour and reputation in a battle that will test him as never before, is Sharpe . . .

Another great Sharpe story superbly read by Rupert Farley who truly brings Sharpe to life from the pages, he has Sean Bean’s voice perfectly. I can almost see the story playing!

Bernard Cornwell
What did you like most about Sharpe's Fortress: The Siege of Gawilghur, December 1803 (The Sharpe Series, Book 3)?
Bernard Cornwell has an amazing talent of stringing fact and fiction together. the story lines of the sharpe chronicles mean that you are on a roller coaster of emotion through the stories. Gripping all the way.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Has to be Sharpe, he is a gritty and stubborn character and you wish you were him.
What does Rupert Farley bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
The mix of very good accents.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Very much so
Any additional comments?
I have the full collection of paper back and could not put the series down 8 years ago when i first read them all, 20 odd books read in 3 months. It is the same with the audio books and a pleasure to revisit the series again.

Great reader
They left out the historical notes, an essential part of the story, this is disappointing.

One of the best Sharpe novels
Solid plot, fabulously narrated and the dialogue really brings the characters to life. It really draws you in. And rather than a dry description, the battle scenes are nicely woven into Sharpe's own story so that you get carried away with the action.

Well read by Rupert Farley
If you could sum up Sharpe's Fortress: The Siege of Gawilghur, December 1803 (The Sharpe Series, Book 3) in three words, what would they be?
Very well read
What did you like best about this story?
Rupert Farley really makes this a good book to listen to. He gives life to all the main characters in what is a good story. Most enjoyable as were the previous two books in the series. I look forward to following the further adventures of Sharpe. I would recommend this series to anyone that likes fictional military history.
