Summary

From the best-selling author who completed Robert Jordan's epic Wheel of Time series comes a new original creation that matches anything else in modern fantasy for epic scope, thrilling imagination, superb characters and sheer addictiveness.

Return to a planet swept by apocalyptic storms, a world tipping into war as aristocratic families move to control the shard blades and shard plates, ancient artefacts from a past civilisation that can win wars.

As the world tips into a war for control of the mythical artefacts of power made from Shard, characters are swept up into new dangers which will threaten their integrity and their lives.

Huge, ideas-filled, world-spanning fantasy from a master of the genre.

WOW! If I could give this 7/5 I would do

This book is an emotional rollercoaster, you never know what is coming next and many sections feel as if you are part of the struggle within each of the characters.

Honestly, this is such a good book, this is the best Brandon Sanderson book that I have ever listened too, and I've listened all of them I think. Michael Kramer and Kate Reading are as brilliant as ever in their narration, in fact quite possibly better, although I think rating the narration of experts in their field isn't easy, it's much easier to spot flaws in a narrators ability than to see exactly how an expert improves as time goes by without being an expert yourself, but this seems like some of their best work too.

As a final note, I would say is that this book has more references to other Cosmere regions than any other that I have listened too, if the Stormlight Archive is the first Cosmere series that you are reading/listening too then I would highly recommend making use of the time between listening to this and the next in the series to look into the Mistborn, Warbreaker and perhaps even the Elantris series of novels, but most definitly once doing that, as recommended by Brandon Sanderson himself at the beginning of the book, listen to Arcanum Unbounded: The Cosmere Collection, many of the stories within provide insight on the nature of the cosmere and there are huge spoilers for the other series in it so I'd recommend reading it only after you read all of the others mentioned, although perhaps before the Bands of Mourning, although that is also debatable. (p.s. Yes, I know how long that will take you, perhaps as long as it takes for Brandon Sanderson to write the next in the series, maybe even longer, this was your fault, you've opened the pandora's box of literature here!!)

Enjoy!!

Andrew

Arrg! Somebody must stop Kate from reading

What was one of the most memorable moments of Oathbringer?

Kate Reading, messing up another great series. I don't normally bother reading or writing reviews but she is terrible & it appears everyone seems to agree. She ruined WoT & now this series. I will have to buy the books as well as I skipped so many chapters after a few minutes of her tedious inflection and simpering nonsense. Probably why audible/amazon keeps hiring her

Any additional comments?

I can only assume she is under contract. For her soul. With some evil cross roads demon or some such. Another epic book ruined (well, not really) but as mentioned above i have had to infer a lot as I have to skip so much.

Better than the first 2 books!

My favourite book so far. Plenty of action, and for me, has gained plenty of momentum, which I hope extends to the next book.

I highly recommend this book.

Book three.. of ten?!

Loved the books, and after listening thorough all the books which I thought was part of a trilogy, I slowly realised that the third book did not finish the story.
Now I'll have to suffer for YEARS while waiting for the following books.
"Thank you", Brandon Sanderson.

Another excellent story from Brandon

Great performance by Michael Kramer and Kate Reading, whose enthusiasm for the story brings it to life - they're truly captivating. As for the story itself, it's more of the same from Brandon Sanderson - putting the Epic in Fantasy once again, with characters each with their own journey that draws you in. Anxiously waiting for the next book!
