Summary

Martha Wells' New York Times and USA Today best-selling Murderbot series exploded onto the scene in 2017, and the world has not been the same, since.

Murderbot returns in its highly anticipated, first full-length stand-alone novel, Network Effect.

You know that feeling when you’re at work and you’ve had enough of people, and then the boss walks in with yet another job that needs to be done right this second or the world will end, but all you want to do is go home and binge your favorite shows? And you're a sentient murder machine programmed for destruction? Congratulations, you're Murderbot.

Come for the pew-pew space battles, stay for the most relatable AI you’ll listen to this century.

I’m usually alone in my head, and that’s where 90-plus percent of my problems are.

When Murderbot's human associates (not friends, never friends) are captured and another not-friend from its past requires urgent assistance, Murderbot must choose between inertia and drastic action.

Drastic action it is, then.

Enjoyable if slightly confusing

Earlier ones not as involved and here an exercising listener can get lost from time to time but the premise and writing remains fresh

A rogue sec unit with an inner monologue - genius

And add to that sarcastic transport ships, newly freed robots, wormholes, aliens, drones and dynamic dialogues with humans. Martha Wells has crafted a novel with fresh ideas on what it would be Ike to be part human part machine - and rammed it full of rescues, adventures and imagination. Highly recommend.

Absolutely love all the Murderbot stories. Having a full length one is a treat. Hopefully many more.

Finally

Finally, a proper length book, and it's good. This is a reward for paying the past premiums for the others.

A series that gets better with every book

Like Mensah, I too am very fond of murderbot and how they are learning what kind of person they want to be.

We are all Murderbot

Finally a novel length story of Murderbot! Martha Wells doesn't disappoint and the story is brilliant. It can be a little tricky keeping track of the 'versions' but it gives you the chance to read/listen again and love the story again! Looking forward to the next one!

A Fabulous Series Continues

The story, the performance and the vibe of the whole audiobook make this yet another great addition to the storytelling.

Well worth it.

Lives up to the high standards of the prior books

With this book being substantially longer than the prior books in the series, there was always a risk it would tweak the winning formula in a negative way, but Martha Wells manages to deliver extra story without losing the appeal of the established style.
As with all the earlier narrations Kevin R Free does an excellent job of bringing the characters to life and conjuring up the world they inhabit.

Murderbot is a modern classic

Martha Wells’ writing is wonderful and the worlds and characters she creates utterly believable and interesting.
I can’t imagine a better person to perform these books, Kevin R Free’s voicing of the characters is subtle and nuanced and adds depth and richness to the stories in a way that’s very rare in spoken books.
Viewing the stories through the developing consciousness of the recently emancipated SecUnit and their struggles to come to terms with a deeply flawed humanity and their own freedom and existence is the most interesting perspective on AI I have read in a long time and explores morality humanity and gender issues with warmth and compassion.

Murderbot and ART

Just brilliantly done , loved it. Narrator was excellent and loved the interchanges between the characters. One of my go-to series.
