Summary
A heart-wrenching, powerfully written novel: a Kite Runner for Palestine
‘One of the most thought-provoking books I've read ... written with passion and honesty, and poetry' Daily Mail
Mornings in Jenin is a devastating novel of love and loss, war and oppression, and heartbreak and hope, spanning five countries and four generations of one of the most intractable conflicts of our lifetime.
Palestine, 1948. Half a million Palestinians are forced from their homes. A mother clutches her six-month-old son as Israeli soldiers march through the village of Ein Hod. In a split second, her son is snatched from her arms and the fate of the Abulheja family is changed forever.
Forced into a refugee camp in Jenin and exiled from the ancient village that is their lifeblood, the family struggles to rebuild their world. Their stories unfold through the eyes of the youngest sibling, Amal, the daughter born in the camp who will eventually find herself alone in the United States; the eldest son who loses everything in the struggle for freedom; the stolen son who grows up as an Israeli, becoming an enemy soldier to his own brother.
‘The writer's pain - and the beauty of her prose - are very real' Telegraph

Heartwrenching and very timely
I took a while to get this book and initially the fluctuations between 1st and 3rd person narrative bemusing. But I'm so glad I continued. A heartwrenching, beautifully written and perfectly narrated historical novel starting pre 1948 'Nakba' and leading up to the Jenin massacre in 2002.
Spanning 4 generations, an unsettling insight into the daily reality of displaced people and what it means to be Palestinian.

Free Palestine
I wept so hard at this story, which is steeped in the daily reality of the Palestinian people. Jews went through a holocaust under Nazi Germany and Israel is inflicting the same on Palestine. When will we as the world stop watching this genocide happening and liberate Palestine?

A tale of love and endurance
The horrors of war are laid bare in this novel. The suffering of the Palestinian people is harrowing but loyalty and love of family & friends is the enduring theme throughout. How anyone can survive such tragedy is beyond me. This is a well told story with rounded characters that you will come to champion and who will touch your heart.

I loved this book, though it is heartbreaking how closely it mirrors events we are witnessing in Palestine today.

An important listen
Not only is this audiobook an important listen but it is also beautifully written. Through the story of a Palestinian family, the author portrays the injustices the Palestinian people have endured for decades.

Totally moving and so important.
The most wonderful poetical writing and moving stories. An epic tale of hardship of the Palestinian people interwoven with perspectives from Israeli and American characters. It’s utterly brilliant and poignant as I wrote this at a time when the most brutal attack of Palestine is happening.

Good insight
This book made me more aware of the viewpoint from Palestinian point of view. Made me curious to find out more, especially with what seems to be history repeating itself in Gaza.
