Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

At 35, Mika Suzuki is struggling.

She's been fired (again). Her last relationship went up in flames. Her fervently traditional mother is perpetually disappointed in her. And now, she's had a phone call from 16-year-old Penny Calvin. The baby she reluctantly gave up for adoption when she was just a teenager herself.

Mika is desperate to meet her girl. But she barely feels like she can take care of herself.

Is she ready to show Penny who her mother really is?

I’d like to be friends with Mika!

I really enjoyed spending time with Mika- a relatable 30 something who is dissatisfied with where she is in life. This is only magnified when she is reunited with her daughter Penny, who she had at 19 and gave up for adoption. Now Mika not only feels like a disappointment as a daughter, but as a biological mother too.

The character of Mika is so well rounded, I was rooting for her the whole way! Some difficult subjects are tackled including *spoiler*TW* rape, so it’s not exactly a light read, but is very engaging heartfelt, and entertaining. Excellent pace and superb narration. Once I finished the audiobook I found myself missing Mika!
