Summary
Random House presents the audiobook edition of Memories of Ice: The Malazan Book of the Fallen 3 by Steven Erikson, read by Ralph Lister.
The ravaged continent of Genabackis has given birth to a terrifying new empire: the Pannion Domin. Like a fanatical tide of corrupted blood, it seethes across the land, devouring all who fail to heed the Word of its elusive prophet, the Pannion Seer.
In its path stands an uneasy alliance: Dujek Onearm's Host and the Bridgeburners, each now outlawed by the Empress alongside their enemies of old, including the grim forces of Warlord Caladan Brood, Anomander Rake, Son of Darkness, and his Tiste Andii, and the Rhivi people of the Plains.
But more ancient clans, too, are gathering. As if in answer to some primal summons, the massed ranks of the undead, T'lan Imass, have risen. For it would seem something altogether darker and more malign threatens the very substance of this world. The Warrens are poisoned, and rumours abound of the Crippled God, now unchained and intent on a terrible revenge....
Marking the return of many favourite characters from Gardens of the Moon and introducing a host of remarkable new players, Memories of Ice is a thrilling new chapter in Erikson's magnificent epic fantasy and another triumph of storytelling.

Exceptional
Ahh, what a fantastic third installment to the series. Memories of Ice is truly a work of creativity, in which Mr Erkison is truly deserved adulation.
This tale picks up exactly after GOTM, where we're reintroduced to many of our favourites. There is a war to the south, a war in which disrupts mortals, gods, ascendants, undead, spirits, soletaken, the pantheon, and the very Warren's themselves. Who will answer this threat? Our beloved malazans no doubt, with the help of unlikely allies.
For first time readers, this book is incredibly important. It potentially is the most detailed book, where many story lines are unravelled. There are a few watch out characters where I would suggest full focus when listening too, as some details are key to what is happening, and are easy missed.
First one is unmistakably, Quick Ben. Quick Ben is key to the overall 10 book series, and there are actions within this that are vital.
Captain Paran - as we see his role play out in this book, his role evolves into something that is fundamental.
Kallor - there is no question to his significance in this book and the total malazan universe. At the beginning he is easily overlooked, but i assure you, he is essential.
Note that there are many important moments across this book, I just feel that these characters and what they're doing are easily overlooked in the grand scheme of things

This might be my favourite book of the whole series. A fantastic story of massive scope and depth, the rapport with the characters built and woven around an epic tale. Also, the more I listen, the more I come to enjoy the narration, I believe he has grown as a narrator over the first three books.

What a great tale, I have read and listened to hundreds of fantasy stories and this is right up there with the very best. I won’t spoil but you must read or listen to this, rich and deep truly a wonderful tale.
