Ellie Matthews has come to Wychwood-on-Lea to find a new start for her and her daughter Abby. But, life there doesn’t start out as idyllic as she had hoped. While Ellie loves her cute cottage in Willoughby Close, the Yummy Mummies at the primary school seem intent on giving her the cold shoulder, Abby has trouble fitting in, and her boss, Oliver Venables, is both surprisingly sexy and irritatingly inscrutable.
But miracles can happen in the most unexpected places, and in small, yet wonderful ways. Slowly, Ellie and Abby find themselves making friends and experiencing the everyday magic of Willoughby Close. When Oliver’s nephew, Tobias, befriends Abby, the four of them start to feel like family...and Ellie begins to see the kindness and warmth beneath Oliver’s chilly exterior, which awakens both her longing and fear.
Ellie knows all about disappointment, and the pain of trying too hard for nothing, while Oliver has his own hurts and secrets to deal with. A bit better than the first
I enjoyed this book better than the first in the series, I think mainly because I've got used to the way the narrator speaks or maybe she just wasn't as bad in this one I'm not sure.
I enjoyed the story a bit more with this one too, there seemed to be a bit more substance to it than the previous one

Good book bad narrator
This is an easy, light listen absolutely ruined by the narrator. I'm sure many won't finish it which would be a shame as it's a lovely story

Easy listening
A predictable and one dimensional love story. I felt there was so much more the writer could explore within the story, such as the relationship between Abby and the lady of the manor.

Why an American narrator?
An American author and American narrator on a story set in the Cotswolds. Words are pronounced incorrectly, wrong terms used and it leads you to believe the main character is American when she isn’t.

Disappointing
This is a story set in England so why would you use someone to narrate it from another country? Someone who has the same character speaking in a Yorkshire accent & a beat later a Scottish one?! I liked the first in the series but this was painfully drawn out for very little reward. At one point when it got ridiculous around the suggestion of dating sites I stopped it and very nearly didn't carry on I was so frustrated. I'm glad it was free but I don't think I'll be continuing with the series any further.

It is really worth a listen
These books are ALL "included" listens which means NOT spending Credits😀!
First of all I had to get over the American narration as she kept getting the English language wrong BUT once you do, Kate Hewitt writes the story very well. These listens actually got me hooked. The 1st book in the series is about Colin who converts the manor house stables into the 4 houses, there inturn creating Willoughby Close.
This was a good Listen & a lovely series of books .
I like how all these books inter and so does the characters.
4 houses of Willoughby Close, so 4 Stories of each occupant.
Number 1 Ellie's Story.
Number 2 Harriet's Story.
Number 3 Ava's Story.
Number 4 Alice's Story.
All different backgrounds & circumstances bring these lovely ladies together to become Neighbours in the 4 homes of Willoughby Close and they all because friends.
These books are definitely worth a listen, I recommend the author not the narrator!
