Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
Ten years ago, Harold Fry set off on his epic journey on foot to save a friend. But the story doesn't end there.
Now his wife, Maureen, has her own pilgrimage to make.
Maureen Fry has settled into the quiet life she now shares with her husband Harold after his iconic walk across England. Now, ten years later, an unexpected message from the North disturbs her equilibrium again, and this time it is Maureen's turn to make her own journey.
But Maureen is not like Harold. She struggles to bond with strangers, and the landscape she crosses has changed radically. She has little sense of what she'll find at the end of the road. All she knows is that she must get there.
Maureen Fry and the Angel of the North is a deeply felt, lyrical and powerful novel, full of warmth and kindness, about love, loss, and how we come to terms with the past in order to understand ourselves and our lives a little better. While it stands in its own right, it is also the exquisitely moving finale to a trilogy that began with the phenomenal bestseller The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry and continued with The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy.

Very Maureen
it's not the strongest in the trio, just like Maureen is not the strongest character, but it was needed just like she is and it was an enjoyable listen.

Maureen's story
I enjoyed all three books in this story. I think Maureen's was my favourite though. I was so invested in her character by the time I'd read the other two that I desperately wanted Maureen to find some comfort and be able to grieve her son. Beautifully written and Penelope Wilton was the perfect choice to read it.

Maureen’s reflections
Loved the way the Maureen gradually reflected on her own feelings and reasons why she was so unhappy. I wish the book had finished with David’s ‘conversation’.

A beautiful end to the trilogy. A journey towards understanding. I shall definitely be reading it again and forgiveness. Congratulations.

A beautiful end to the series.
This book finishes the story of Harold, Queenie and Maureen beautifully. It is sad, but the pain comes full circle and it does finally ease for Maureen as it did for Harold and Queenie. Home truths are faced after decades of shutting it out.
The narration is excellent. I loved all 3 books of this series. You must read them in order, of Harold Fry, Queenie Hennessey and Maureen Fry.

Fantastic completion of the unlikely pilgrimage of Harold Fry. Gosh! Boosted me back to fiction. Love, love and forgiveness. Full of Gold. Highly recommended but listed to the other two books first- loved it!

The Angel(s) of the North: Maureen
What can I say about this wonderful book. Rachel Joyce a gifted storyteller . She doesn’t hold back, I laughed out loud on numerous occasions whilst listening ( and got strange looks from lots of people, I didn’t care ). Then I was at the other end of the spectrum, a lump in my throat followed by tears rolling down my cheeks. So many angels ( I’m divulging anymore ).
Everything tied up beautifully and the pièce de résistance was the fabulous Penelope Wilton reading the book. Most definitely a worthy sequel to Rachel Joyce’s first book: The unlikely pilgrimage of Harold Fry

We get to know Maureen better and the story was very interesting. I had to keep listening.
Penelope Wilton is the perfect narrator. I loved the pilgrimage of Harold Fry and this book is a close second.
