Summary
A rising death toll. A city in panic. A young mother is found dead in her home with no obvious cause of death. As DI Hannah Robbins and her team investigate, it soon becomes clear that the woman is the first in a long line of murders by poison.
With the body count climbing and the city of Nottingham in social meltdown, the team find themselves in a deadly race against a serial killer determined to prove a point. And Hannah finds herself targeting an individual with whom she has more in common than she could possibly know.

Very enjoyable
Well written with good solid characters. If you like books by LJ Ross, Joy Ellis and Sally Rigby you’ll enjoy this book. I’m hoping it’s a series.

absolutely sublime, no word wasted, perfection
Despite being a police crime thriller, the story is raw without the gore and raw with emotion. Each word carefully chosen, but utterly bereft allowing the reader to use their naked imagination and go through the same roller coaster of thoughts, feelings and actions without superfluous description. A masterpiece in storytelling. A contender for my book of the year and hopefully many other people's too. A must read.

Good
Quite good but a bit long winded and a lot of chapters but assume on paper they weren’t very long

Really poor narration!
I have listened to many detective novels and I think I would have enjoyed this one more if read by a different narrator. Colleen Prendergast shouldn't read detective novels, I had to rewind a few times because her voice had no feeling, just monotone.

a good read, like the narrator's voice
a well-crafted story that kept me keen to get to the next chapter. Nottingham, a city I know, makes a believable setting.

Mediocre narration….
It’s a shame because it was a good story. I’ve listened to a lot of books narrated by Colleen Prendergast and while I’m not a fan of her flat monotone voice it doesn’t usually affect the story too much. With this book being a completely different genre to her usual readings I felt it needed someone with more expression and emphasis than Colleen has. Therefore she wasn’t the best choice of narrator for this book.

Another enjoyable storyline
I have enjoyed both books in this series so far. Plenty going on and all ties together well.

Not a bad story
..but lots of niggles. Terrible narrator for this genre. And her constantly saying HAT instead of HAD drove me mad. Numerous grammatical errors in the writing (who edits these books?? ) A lot of repetition. Short, disjointed chapters, not helped by the narrators monotone reading. The story was good but the writing very longwinded. And so much red wine drunk with many painkillers! It's a wonder the lead character was ever upright, leave alone able to function as a high ranking professional !!
