Summary
DI Tom Thorne must discover the link between these killings and a murder/suicide that took place twenty-five years before; a tragedy to which the only witnesses were two small children, now adults and nowhere to be found...
How can you escape a past that will do a lot more than just catch up with you?
And how can Thorne catch a killer, when he doesn't really care about the victims?
Critic reviews

Ok but not my favourite by far
Struggled to finish this one. Love the character Tom Thorne but this story was a bit too far fetched for me

Hapless detective solves crimes by always falling victim
I saw a billboard advertising Billingham’s latest novel and thought I’d check him out because I like crime fiction.
I have listened to the first 3 books. Each time the detective was certain and completely wrong or had no idea until the killer targeted him. The books are more entertaining than nothing, but the detective isn’t particularly likeable and the cheesy interlude music will grind your gears after a book or two.
All in all, pretty mediocre stuff (but perhaps slightly better than a lot of the other trash out there). Will I listen to another book? Maybe. Or maybe I’ll try another author.. there’s nothing that has really drawn me in to Billingham’s books, but not too much that’s driven me away either. It’s just… meh…

Thorne in my side
3 books in an I only just realised most of the DCI Thorne series are abridged. However, the abridgement is excellent and had I not spotted this I would have said they were complete. This is easily best of the first 3 and it feels like Mark Billingham has really started to know how to write Thorne and the regular characters. He shows a keen insight into the killer's background and treats the subject with care but not to the detriment of the story. If you love crime drama ignore the fact that its abridged and grab a Thorne now.

Best Billingham yet!
What did you like most about Lazybones?
A good story told well. And I one whose ending I didn't see coming, although I had my usual fun guessing.
What did you like best about this story?
Opened up lots of false trails.
What does Robert Glenister bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Good voice and great story telling.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No. I just enjoyed it.
Any additional comments?
Billingham is becoming my favourite author.

Intrusive music
This listening experience was ruined by the intrusion of discordant music. What was a good book became a dread w a lying for the next batch of screeching.

Too much gory detail
This is a book for those who feel that without all the gory details, the whole story hasn't been told. In the case of this book, seemed to me that the main story WAS the gory details. I actually got this book because I love Robert Glenister's narration. Will not be looking for any more books by this author.

Easy listening
Easy listening, ok plot. Had guessed who it was sometime before the end. Different subjects matter, and quite a few twist that kept you going.
