Summary

A group of 27 scientists and explorers are stranded in Antarctica.

Residing in a station known as Shackleton, they are studying the seismic activity of the region. An eruption of the nearby volcano, Mount Erebus, soon sends quakes throughout the continent with devastating results.

All radio communication has been disabled by the breakdown of the magnetic field. Evacuation is unlikely. No one knows whether they survived the icequake, and their station is now moving two kilometres north each day with the strong aftershocks. They are on their own, with limited food and resources.

Do they stay put and risk being caught in the next series of icequakes and avalanches? Or do they pack up and trek over dangerous territories to the neighbouring station?

Icequake is a gripping prophetic sci-fi disaster novel, full of excitement and danger in every chapter.

Dreadful Narration

It was an ok story but the narrator completely spoiled it with his inability to do any accent other than his own. His attempts were ludicrous and spoiled the story.

A different disaster book.

Interesting take on a disaster with almost every character surviving. Enjoyable listening. Very easy to follow.

Good Suspence fun

Nothing heavy. Just a fun what if the ice broke up and the consequences for an isolated community. Enjoyed it.

heavy terminology great story

narrator was brilliant at making the story come alive. He even managed to differentiate between the different people with ease.
the story was a little heavy in places and the use of terminology, although necessary, bogged it down. it was fascinating to see the end of the world from this point of view: as those who weren't there.

Icequake

Brilliant. Very exciting and lots of in depth characters. Also, this story has been hauntingly, eerily and terrifyingly prophetic.
The narrator was absolutely amazing.

different story

i enjoyed this book. Its an original idea and original story. usually when we hear of a natural disaster we follow large towns and countries. but in this case we follow a small team trying to get to safety.

intense

Enjoyed listening to the book. Plenty of action, science, brilliant descriptions, and excellent explanations. Lots happening with nature taking the lead and man reacting.

Meh...it was okay...

This book had potential...
Just missed on a few points...
Mostly environmental, primarily inside the shelter at the station...the state of objects etc.
The Russian doctor was the least believable character among many...
But I live the Kiwis so ergo the 3 stars

in the end I gave up listening

too many characters, none of them distinctive and an unengaging plot. A fairly dull story

Stereotypical view of women

I’m not entirely sure the author has met any women. The women characters are 2 dimensional and merely foils for the men. Tedious.
