Summary
A spicy, sassy, and swoony fake dating romantic comedy from Amazon Charts bestselling author Jennifer Millikin.
A week on an island sounds like the stuff of beach dreams, but for Paisley Royce, it's a nightmare. Her little sister is marrying her ex-college sweetheart, and Paisley is serving as maid of honor. To add insult to injury, nobody will let Paisley forget she's single.
Bachelorette weekend changes everything when she runs into her old college frenemy, Klein Madigan.
Klein is still intelligent and funny, and somehow time has only made him more attractive.
Paisley is Klein's one that got away, not that he'd ever admit it to her. A colossal misstep (and one terrible kiss) in college sealed their fate.
Or so they thought.
Klein's an aspiring author allergic to social media. Paisley owns a digital marketing agency.
A brilliant plan is hatched: A trip across the country for a week of faking out her family in exchange for her firm marketing his work.
One hastily scrawled and signed contract on a bar napkin later, Paisley and Klein embark on a journey of tension, only one bed, and fake dating shenanigans.
Paisleys goal is to survive the week.
Klein's plan is to enjoy the sun, sand, and wedding cake.
But then there's a scorching kiss to make up for that bad one in college.
And another kiss in a lighthouse during a thunderstorm. A gentle palm on Paisleys lower back, and a reassuring hand squeeze under the table.
Everyone is convinced Klein and Paisley are the real deal, but as the week wears on, they begin to wonder if the only people they're kidding are themselves.

Here for the Cake
My first book by this author, but I'm already a fan.
Such a cute, sweet and funny story.
Paisley and Klein had a drunken makeout session, met again in schools creative writing and again many years later at Paisleys sister bachelorette party/weekend.
It results in spending a week on an island together.
I really enjoyed the whole story, with great characters (I love Paisleys grandma) and a comfort factor.

Fun swoony summer read
3.5⭐️
This is a fun, summery read that contains themes of miscommunication (but no third act break up) and toxic family relationships. Jennifer Millikin is new to me, and so are the narrators. The book was narrated in duet style and I really enjoyed the narration. The narrators played off each other really well and brought out all the humour and emotions in the book.
I had mixed feelings at the start. In the first few chapters, we got unnecessarily detailed descriptions of wedding envelopes and the process of changing a keg. Thankfully, that didn’t carry on throughout the book. It also took me a while to warm up to Paisley’s “people pleaser” personality. It was really nice to see her grow as the book progressed.
I really liked Klein’s character. He’s so sweet and caring and he’s a writer, so he has a way with words. I really enjoyed watching their relationship develop. This book has a couple of vaguely described spicy scenes that highlighted the intimacy of the relationship developing between them. They had a bit of a misunderstanding in college, which ultimately worked out for the best and I liked how the author gradually uncovered what happened. We found out quite quickly that Klein’s been in love with Paisely since college, but the author strategically dropped crumbs about their past, through out the story, keeping us hooked and eager to find out what happened.
The thing that kept bugging me throughout the book and kept me from rating this higher, is that I couldn’t get on board with their marketing strategy. I’m not usually the type who reads and says “this would never work in real life.” But I read it and thought, “that couldn’t possibly work.” I love the fake dating trope, and this was obviously ment to be a fresh take on it, but I just wasn’t convinced.
Despite my issues with the book, I enjoyed it. The ending was particularly satisfying to read. There was character growth, disaster averted and a happy ending.

Sweet & swoony
This is such a sweet, fun, & Swoony read.
Klein is the sweetest, caring, kindhearted & swoon worthy guy.
I love how Klein & Paisley brought out so much openness and enjoyment in each other.
I absolutely loved how Klein stood up for Paisley every chance he got, without going to extreme. He cared for her and supported her.
They had such amazing chemistry together, & I loved the progression of their relationship.
