Summary

Julius Caesar has taken his legions north into mighty battles with the Gallic tribes. But as his successes mount, overwhelming ambition and new alliances begin to threaten his friendship with Marcus Brutus, brother-in-arms and fellow warrior. Although the conquest of Gaul has made Caesar a hero all over again, his victories on the battlefield cause still more rivalries at home. And ultimately Caesar and Brutus will have to choose whether to cross the Rubicon - together or singly - and to take the fight to Rome itself.

Good

Again another good book from Conn Iggulden, the only drawback was the initial part of the book,it was very slow to build and i felt the first hour or so you could have skipped quite easily as it did not seem to know quite where it was going, but once the story gathered pace it was an excellent listen and narrated well.

Did the original narrator die?

Seriously. if you make an audio book series USE THE SAME NARRATOR!!!!!!!

all the characters change. the story ...all of it is different. this guy is ok but he obviously didn't bother listening to the previous 2.

sound quality is poor too

Great story - reasonable narration

The narrator should stick to the same name pronunciations as the previous narrator for continuity.

Abysmal reading

Different pronunciation of main character names. Loss of character and accents instilled in me from the brilliant reading of Robert Glenister through the first two books. Consistency please. Hard to listen to !!!

A great story, but iffy narrator

A great tale, rich, detailed, gripping and absorbing. The narrative is iffy, wrong pronunciation and doesn't sound great. The reader uses W sounds for some names, Serwilla and Octawian, instead of the correct V. Also uses Glahdius instead of Gladius. Inconsistent with the previous books, and contrary to the established known pronunciation. To me the narrator sounds condescending as well. Take nothing away from the story, but it takes the shine off it for me

Who is this Narrator guy?? I agree with everyone

OK, I'm actually ONLY a few hours into this book, and am hating having to listen to it.
Extraordinarii, Gladius, Cisterces, Octavian, Catalina, Cabera are all VERY BADLY pronounced, and those who loved the first two books I see all agree ... I loved the first two, with Robert Glenister being part of that joy..he does all the JK Rowling books (not the Harry Potters..the grown up stuff) and hes excellent.
But, this Paul Blake idiot..just..No! Where is the Producer to tell him, that he's pronounced Octavian who went on to become the Emperor as ' Octawian ' ..Cabera becomes Carberra...aaagh!!
I kid you not, and I'm wincing and desperately wanting to listen but have 14 hrs to go aaaargh!!! I hate this Narrator. Wh the hell hired him?? Mr Conn Iggulden you write great books..dont let idiots ruin them or we wont buy them! Its excruciating on Audible!!
ok! Rant over. thankyou . Great book, terrible off putting narration !! Please change this guy

Narration not as good

Story excellent but the narration change from first books was a disappointment. Got used to it eventually but not as enjoyable as a result.

Great story, dreadful narration.

I found the narration jarring and completely different pronunciation from previous books, it took some getting used too but was worth it in the end.
