Summary

Gone with the wind

Europe from the late 19th c to the first day of World War 2 as it metamorphosed from one world - a
peaceful, prosperous and civilized world - into one of violence, barbarism and despair. We still live in the aftermath of this World of Yesterday, looking back at the last shimmer of a sun that set in 1914 and that has never risen the same as it once was. No author better understands the soul of Europe than Zweig.
