Demon’s story begins with his traumatic birth to a single mother in a single-wide trailer, looking ‘like a little blue prizefighter.’ For the life ahead of him he would need all of that fighting spirit, along with buckets of charm, a quick wit, and some unexpected talents, legal and otherwise.
In the southern Appalachian Mountains of Virginia, poverty and addiction aren’t ideas. They’re as natural as the grass grows. For Demon, born on the wrong side of luck, the affection and safety he craves is as remote as the ocean he dreams of seeing one day. The wonder is in how far he’s willing to travel to try and get there.
Suffused with truth, anger and compassion, Demon Copperhead is an epic tale of love, loss and everything in between.

I just loved this book
The story and the narrator were perfect together. I loved everything about the book, the characters, the language, the resilience and continued integrity of Demon even at rock bottom and the ending!! This will go down as one of my favourite ever listens.

21st Century David Cooper field.
If you love David Coperfield you will love this 21st Century twist on the story. excellent story telling the characters feel real. you cannot help but feel & sympathize with Daemon. I wanted to help him & wanted him to escape the trails & tribulations of his horrendous life. It makes you think. The narrator keeps you interested with the lively voices.

Gripping story with fascinating facts
I have really enjoyed all Barbara Kingsolver’s books and this one is another gem. I was initially unsure about the narrator’s accent but came to realise this was exactly right for the story. And enjoyed it all the more for that.

A really good book and very well read
An incredibly powerful story, full of anguish and humour courage of the sort that doesn’t realise it’s courage because it doesn’t see there being an alternative. And a real explanation of the resentment of poor and rural communities, who’ve not chosen their lot, against the ‘citified’ and/or affluent - which I’d not really thought about before. Highly recommended
