Summary
1st-century Britannia is the setting for an epic and action-packed novel of tribal uprisings, battles to the death and unmatched courage in the Roman army ranks. From Simon Scarrow, author of the best sellers The Emperor's Exile, Centurion and The Gladiator.
The 21st Eagle of the Empire novel. If you don't know Simon Scarrow, you don't know Rome!
It is AD 60. The hard-won province of Britannia is a thorn in the side of the Roman Empire, its tribes swift to anger and relentless in their bloody harassment of the Roman military. Far from being a peaceful northern enclave, Britannia is a seething mass of bitter rebels and unlikely alliances against the common enemy. Corruption amongst greedy officials diverts resources from the locals who need them. For the military, it's a never-ending fight to maintain a fragile peace.
Now it's time to quell the most dangerous enemy tribes. Two of Rome's finest commanders—Prefect Cato and Centurion Macro—are charged with a mission as deadly as any they have faced in their long careers. Can they win the day, or could this be the last battle?
A stunning and unforgettable story of warfare, courage and sacrifice as brave men face an enemy with nothing to lose....

9th November can’t come soon enough for me
Yet another thrilling adventure for carto and macro. I can’t wait to see if their families are alive and was gutted by appolonisa’s death. Roll on the 9th November when we can start Book 22. Hopefully read by Johnathan Kibble

Worth Every Denarius
This is Simon Scarrow at his absolute best, with a full-scale assault on your sense of time as the pace of this tale simply does not let up.
You can see the churn of the mud on the battlefield with every twist of the Gladius and war cry of the Britons. You can hear every scream of battle, feel every spear-thrust.
Mr Scarrow creates well-measured tension, picking you up and shoving you into the front ranks of the auxiliaries.
He has a knack of creating characters to warm to, to loath and to love and this book is no exception, excelling in his ability to weave history into fiction.
This is one of his best by far and given the quality of his previous works, you can be certain of a cracker of a listen.
This instalment in particular left me screaming with despair that the story had ended…you can be certain I will be pre-ordering the next one!
Jonathan Keeble’s ability to pull you into the frenzy of battle with his skilful narration is well-established and this chapter doesn’t disappoint. He brings the work to life in a way that leaves you feeling most other narrators just aren’t trying.
I’m super impressed with this story and I have no doubt that for fans of the series, you’ll be left with the same conclusion I was: this is a story teller at the absolute top of his game. Conn Iggulden? Pfft. Make way for the new Emperor of Roman tales, Simon Scarrow. Long live the Emperor!

Excellent-both in story and narration
Great story-one years in the making. i have looked forward to this since a young Boudicca was introduced many years ago, in an earlier novel. It ends on an excellent cliff hanger which has heightened my anticipation for the next in the series to unprecedented levels! Keeble is, as ever, exceptional. He and Sean Barrett stand at the very peak of their trade.

Narration awesome story in parts predictable
Jonathan Keeble is amazing as usual . Just slightly disappointed with the story ....how many times will the Romans chase the British into a forest to be ambushed ...surely they should have learnt the lesson by now.. However having fast forwarded some of the more predictable parts I still enjoyed this instalment and it passed the the train journey into work.
