Summary
They meet in a clash of swords, drenched in the moonlight of Britain's rugged eastern coast: Captain Jack, his handsome features etched in silver and shadow, his powerful physique compelling "Kit" Cranmer to surrender. He is her dream lover come vividly alive, and his command of the smuggling gang is absolute. His all-knowing gaze penetrates her disguise as the male leader of a rival gang with frightening ease, and his "punishment" with kisses leaves her maidenly modesty in tatters. Suddenly Kit finds she's only too delighted to explore with Jack the pleasures conventionally reserved for married ladies - little knowing what dangerous forces she's unleashing, for even as Kit revels in midnight gallops and cottage rendezvous, Captain Jack is laying a gentle trap that will curtail her freedom and bind her to him with a ring, a promise - and ties of devotion and desire.

Brilliant
Lovely story, superbly read. I listen to a lot of audible stories and this was truly well worth listening to.

Best Narrator
The author should sack all the other narrators she has used and let this woman be her soul narrator. This lady is actually someone who makes these books enjoyable. Others I've dipped into make the author's work sound like utter trash. My toes curl with the cringing mispronunciations. This lady is a star and makes the book worth listening to. Lovely steamy novel that kept me enthralled.

heartwarming romance
who doesn't love an untameable hero/heroine being tamed.? the usual explicit sex scenes aside ( which appear to be the norm in every historical romance) this was an often amusing and entertaining read . loved it

What a delight!
As a controversial disliker of Laurens… I’m shocked—and pleased— to report I finally enjoyed on one her books. Mary Jane Wells (narrating as McCallister Lee I guess) might be the culprit, at least in part, because she always makes books better. But there was something so enchanting about Kit and Jack’s respectively unique brands of stubborn arrogance. It has all the elements of an old classic, kidnapping included, but feels fresh despite that. It also didn’t follow much of a genre trope, but rather was a blend of many—making the various plots feel intriguing and rompy all at once. Plus bonus points for endlessly delicious steamy scenes that never felt gratuitous and often times made me giggle.
Wow, so good. Will be listening to this again and again!

Not the best story, read well though
I love many of Stephanie Lauren’s other books but this one i found frustrating. Largely because the heroine isn’t believable (thus rendered uninteresting) and the plot doesn’t feel well planned out.
This is partly because time and time again (it gets very boring) Kit ‘forgets all her wits and purpose’ as soon as there is any contact with the man she desires. It was fine as a plot device once, but it really degraded the heroines intelligence, interest and plausibility.
Bit sad that a woman was able to write such a simplistic female character.
The narrator saves the book from being a flaming dumpster fire, in my opinion.

Too many sex scenes
I enjoyed the story and the headstrong heroine until she lost her mind and all her character the moment sex was introduced. It’s such a shame. For once I thought the author will give us a heroine with a backbone but it didn’t happen . Why half of the book is taken up by the numerous long sex scenes is beyond me

loved it
Loved every second of it. This is the first book of the Bastion series.
The narrator, McCallister Lee was very good. She sounds just like Mary Jane Wells, in fact I think its her narrating under another name. So anyone who likes Mary Jane Wells should definitely listen to this book as the story is really good.
Now on to the next one.
