Summary
First a slave, then a conscript, she’s always been at the mercy of monsters. When she’s offered a chance to unsheathe her claws, will death spill out?
Sal Luxx is desperate to prove her kind are more than beasts. Born a second-class citizen in a world ruled by humans, the hardheaded pure-bred iliri has had subservience beaten into her veins. But her waning hope for freedom surges when she is given a pass to the trials for an elite military unit… and unleashes her inner predator.
After Sal’s interaction with her new brothers-in-arms triggers strange mental powers, the knowledge her abusers have kept from her drives a growing rage. Yet even as she struggles to smother her rising berserker instincts, she’s undermined by the irresistible urge to claim a mate.
Will Sal’s untamable nature spawn a rebellion or a massacre?
** A.H. Hadley is the fantasy persona of the international best-selling author Auryn Hadley. Only the pen name has changed, the stories you'll enjoy have not changed.

Better than expected
Auryn Hadley has greatly improved the story in this -2022 Expanded Edition-. (Yes, I copied and pasted that label) While I didn't much enjoy reading the original version, I really did like this.
Narrator: Christina Cato I know from some of Auryn Hadley's other series that I love and she delivered here as well. She does a great job with the various characters and brought them much more to life than when I read the book myself.
Plot:
We've got a non-human woman who used to be a slave who is now in the military. A conscript working her way up in life and joining an elite unit. Meeting with more of her kind helps her learn more about who and what she is as well as introducing her to her own instincts.
Characters+World:
I don't love our main character Sal, but I don't dislike her either. The world-building is amazing and I enjoy the guys in her unit. I'm looking forward to the next in the series to come to audio book.

A true epic
Auryn Hadley + Christina Cato = absolute magic.
It’s impossible not to get lost in Sal’s story. Can’t wait for book 2 to hit audible so I don’t have to put it down!

The start of an epic!
Bloodiest is truly the start of an epic series that I have read time and time again, I cannot recommend Rise of the iliri enough. But to have it on audible, with the absolutely fantastic narration is spectacular! The attention paid to voices and accents truly brings this story to life! Five stars all round!

Pure magic.
Whilst originally I wasn’t a fan of Christina Cato, she has definitely grown on me and there’s no doubt she does a remarkable job with the delivery of this audible book. The story itself is new (no overused clichés here) and Auryn Hadley does a Fabulous job of pulling you into a whole new world. I’ve reread and re-listened to this story multiple times and will continue to - it’s definitely on my top 10 list.
