Summary

When Sienna Hegarty turns up at his family home one night, covered in blood and frozen in shock, psychologist Joe O'Loughlin finds himself drawn deep into her world, trying to unearth the dark secrets her mind has buried. The police find a major piece of the puzzle at Sienna’s house: her father, a retired cop, is face-down in a pool of his own blood, his throat slashed and his skull caved in. The blood covering Sienna was his.

The 14-year-old can’t remember what happened that night but, at the same time, Sienna doesn’t mourn her father’s death. What was going on behind closed doors in the Hegarty household? Is Sienna guilty of brutal murder? And what part has her charismatic teacher, Gordon Ellis, played in this blood-soaked event?

Good crime novel but problems with details

After I listened to Shattered I had to find out what happened to Joe O'Loughlin and his family.I liked the book and I liked the story. However I am a stickler to details and having lived in North Wales I was astonished coal mines to be mentioned there - there a plenty of slate quarries and a copper mine but no coal mines (well one close to Wrexham). I assumed Michael Robotham to be a british writer but when he described the A26 in the vicinity of Bristol and Bath I got my doubts. I fully understand that an australian writer can't know about these details but there should be lector who picks them up. Nevertheless, if you are looking for a good suspense, go for it.

Another great listen

I am one away from listening to all of the Michael Robotham books narrated by Sean Barrett and every one has been gripping, with characters brought to life so well, an abundance of twists and turns, and underlying personal stories developed. Very enjoyable, intelligent, exciting and interesting stories.

Another excellent one in the series

I am working my way through the series and enjoying it immensely. Sean Barrett is way better than the first ones and I've been a fan of his narration for some time. My only slight gripe with the series is similar to that in other books which is that, although it's all set in the UK and obviously written by a resident if not a native, there are a number of americanisms which, to a Brit at least, tend to jar. Sidewalk, muffler, stroller for example. Not sure if these have been altered from the original to suit the US market but it is just a small annoyance

Brilliant

Absolutely brilliant, time just raced by listening to this, I was so disappointed when it ended, my only gripe is that there are too few of this authors audio books available. I cannot wait for the next one. The narrator was just right as well. He brought each character to life.

Robotham is a master storyteller!

This book keeps you gripped from beginning to end. The central character, Joe, a Clinical Psychologist is likeable and believable and I can't wait to read another of these brilliantly plotted stories.

Another good book with these characters

Can certainly be read without having read others about these characters, but I enjoy catching up with them now and again!

Good story, and not as hard to listen to (ie: gruesome) as some of his others I've downloaded. Perhaps it would be an idea not to get to know the main character as people he knows have a habit of getting into nasty situations!

Not as good as Shatter..

Enjoyed it but enjoyed Shatter better. Found this one a bit predictable and I didn't warm to some of the characters. Got a bit fed up with Mr Parkinson's as well.

Excellent narration as usual by Sean Barrett but I will read another in the series.
