Bryer’s wit and humour blighted by this narration
A favourite light hearted novel blighted by a narrator who seems blind to the wit and humour of Heyer. Sorry!

Entertaining story. Annoying narration
I may have to listen to another version as the narrator was v off putting. Story was light and entertaining, different from the other Georgette Heyers I’ve read. But lovely escapism.

Volume control ruined this story.
One of my favourite stories ruined by the sound technician. Soft voices were barely audible and, by raising the volume, damaged eardrums were a distinct possibility. choose a different editiion.

great story ruined by narrator
Awful narration, completely overacted. British boarding school accent, ruined some of the characters. Bring back the previous version.

One of the best Heyer’s
Abigail Wendover, the most sensible of her family, is one of the last 2 spinsters of the family, in charge of their niece Fanny - 17 years old and an heiress to boot!
Abigail is also the one member of her family that the rest of them depend on for every little thing. Which is why it is ironic that the eldest surviving male sibling, James, pays little attention to her opinions or views.
The story circles around the fate of Fanny, who falls prey to a dashing fortune hunter, Stacey Calverleigh (whilst Abigail was absent from Bath). She learns his name and, having yet to make his acquaintance, mistakes his Black Sheep uncle for him in a chance encounter.
So begins an amusing tale of wills and propriety. Amusing and sad in parts, but very enjoyable. At the conclusion, one wishes that Miss Heyer had written a sequel to this tale.
I’m used to the former narration and it was one of the best however, this is passable. It is better than many such interpretations, but it is not the best. It will do.

Love Georgette Heyer
Her books sparkle with authenticity, great characters and romance. Very well read also. If you have never read her books, do so now.

Excellent pace, characterisation and dramatic impact. For me, the best narrated of Heyer’s novels on audible,

An excellent narration of a favourite book
I love Georgette Heyer books, and although I have almost all the unabridged audio titles, I still like to find another version with a good narration - its almost like finding a new book. I thoroughly enjoyed my previous version of this, and this one is equally as good. It will be difficult to decide which to listen to next time I fancy laughing out loud at the way unconventional Miles Calverleigh ignores social rules of the day, and goes his own casual way to achieve his own desires. A very good example of life in Bath during this period.

Addicted to bridge the Heyer
My favourite reader is Philada Nash. This one was passable. Enjoyed the story all over again.
