Summary

This eloquent book translates attachment theory and research into an innovative framework that grounds adult psychotherapy in the facts of childhood development. Advancing a model of treatment as transformation through relationship, the author integrates attachment theory with neuroscience, trauma studies, relational psychotherapy, and the psychology of mindfulness. Vivid case material illustrates how therapists can tailor interventions to fit the attachment needs of their patients, thus helping them to generate the internalized secure base for which their early relationships provided no foundation. Demonstrating the clinical uses of a focus on nonverbal interaction, the book describes powerful techniques for working with the emotional responses and bodily experiences of patient and therapist alike.

I got a lot out of this book

Informative, interesting and I used it in my essays. It took me a while to get into it but after a few chapters I couldn’t stop listening to it.

Excellent

I’m a counsellor and found this book to be excellent. Ive also now bought the hard copy. Will refer to again I’m sure. Narration was great and made the text easy to follow which isn’t always the case with non-fiction narrators reading information they are not familiar with. Thoroughly recommend to any counsellor/therapist who wants to deepen and develop their work relationally with clients.

Amazing book_monotone narration

This book is really great for understanding attachment-based therapy, very clear explanations and examples. Unfortunately for me the narrator doesn't seem invested or interested in the topic and it's hard to stay engaged with.

Worth the read but at times long and complicated. However I feel it will help me to be more reflective in therapy sessions.

Must read for trainees

Brilliant book with excellent explanation of the theory for new students (like me!). Narration could have been tad better but the content is first rate.
