Summary

A door opens. An army of dragons advance. And the fate of the living rests with the dead.

After obtaining the secret to creating dragons, the leader of the Fhrey has turned the tide of war once more - but gaining the advantage has come at a terrible price. While Imaly plots to overthrow the fane for transgressions against his people, a mystic and a keeper are the only hope for the Rhunes. Time is short, and the future of both races hangs in the balance. In this exciting conclusion to the Legends of the First Empire series, the Great War finally comes to a climactic end, and with it dawns a new era in the Age of Empyre.

From the New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Michael J. Sullivan comes the concluding installment of his six-book epic fantasy. This series chronicles a pivotal point in Elan's history when humans and those they once saw as gods warred until a new world order was born. Set 3,000 years before the Riyria tales, Legends is a stand-alone fantasy series that is independent of the Riyria novels. But for those who do listen to both series, Legends will unmask lies and reveal the truth about Elan's history and the men and women who shaped what the world became.

the ending was not good

I felt the ending was rushed left me wandering how most of the main characters died and that was it I feel a small epilogue saying if Brin saved tesh from the pit of oblivion persefanie found raith did they manage to save these? apart from that very good series with great narrator. x

Brilliant series

Fantastic series and another solid book. But in the final two, it becomes so irritating how whingy and constantly inquisitive (NOT in a good way) the characters become. It will leave you frequently shouting ‘suck it up’!

A beautiful end to an incredible series

It’s been such a ride and I love it. There were times when story progression was a bit slow and heavy but once you get through that part it’s very gripping. After the story ends you’ll appreciate all the parts. Thank you, author for such a beautiful series.

the theme about forgiveness of ourselves as well as others

I would have like more resolution from the other characters. Did Brynn go back for Tesch? Did Persephonie join Raef in Allison? What happened with the prince and Trilos? What also happened with Suri? Did she make it back to the glen? Overall I enjoyed and I learned some things as well.

Winners and Losers

A Difficult One.

I listened to these books back to front really, with Riyria first. However, pretty much all the loose ends were tied up, with some twists and some sadness. I wasn't particularly fond of the sections spent in the underworld, which I felt went on too long.

As with all stories, not all the characters will make it through. Brin, in my opinion, got a rough deal, as did Persephone. I actually found myself having sympathy with Malcolm. How screwed up is that! And Minna was something else.

Almost forgot: Narration all through was brilliant, as I've come to expect from Tim Gerard Reynolds.

Good ending to this series.

I haven’t read the other books that preceded this set, so I’m not sure if my questions will be answered there, but I was left a bit wanting at the end. After investing so much time in listening to and learning to love the characters the fact that I don’t know if Brin found Tesh, if the defeated Mondulay(? I’ve heard, not read his name) met Marietta who possibly returned to Elan, and what was meant by the way Neffron ruled the lands. What was he emperor of? I’ll download the other books and hopefully they’ll give me some answers but I had to re listen to the end a few times just to find that Roan and Gifford did have Bran, Brin did stay dead. And that her book is misinterpreted in the future. Thank you for giving me these questions though.

Different, interesting and great fun

Really enjoyed the series, lots of twists and turns and plenty of humour. I warmed to most of the characters and enjoyed their roles and development. Heartily recommended
