Summary

The delightfully clever mystery in which Queen Elizabeth II secretly solves a murder at Buckingham Palace, expertly narrated by Samantha Bond (Golden Eye, Tomorrow Never Dies, Die Another Day, Downton Abbey, The Queen and I, The Queen, Home Fires).

Queen Elizabeth II is having a royal nightmare.

A referendum divides the nation, a tumultuous election grips the United States - and the body of a staff member is found dead beside Buckingham Palace swimming pool.

Is it a tragic accident, as the police think? Or is something more sinister going on?

As Her Majesty looks for answers, her trusted assistant, Rozie, is on the trail of a treasured painting that once hung outside the queen's bedroom.

But when Rozie receives a threatening anonymous letter, Elizabeth knows dark forces are at work - and far too close to home. After all, though the staff and public may not realise it, she is the keenest sleuth among them. Sometimes, it takes a queen's eye to see connections where no one else can....

Agatha Christie meets The Crown in A Three Dog Problem, the much-anticipated second book in the Her Majesty the Queen Investigates mystery series by SJ Bennett - for fans of The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman, Agatha Christie and M.C. Beaton's Agatha Raisin.

Wonderful!

I love these stories by SJ Bennett and I cannot wait for the third in the series! They are beautifully read by Samantha Bond who is really the perfect narrator for anything HRM. Please keep writing them :-)

Good entertainment and well read.

You love the characters as they develop. A good story which shows the influence the Queen would have in real life.

Exquisite! Well written and flawlessly read!

This book is such a treat - beautifully written, exquisitely narrated, full of masterfully crafted characters, the narrative voice gentle yet razor-sharp. I've never cared much for the royal family but SJ Bennett managed to draw such a fascinating portrait of the Queen, her family and the hordes of people working for 'the Firm' that I am now quite intrigued. Most enjoyable and highly recommended!

Queening it

This is the second book in the series and the second I’ve read. I’ve found them hugely enjoyable; different, well paced and told, exciting at times and with relatable characters, unlikely though that may sound.

I’m well aware that it’s fiction, but I feel it gives some insight into someone (HM the Q) who has very little down time, very little privacy and who is restricted, both by protocol and prudence, to saying little more than, ‘oh dear’ and ‘how interesting’, and therefore being able to express very little. I don’t think there are many of us (witness social media) who could practise that level of restraint & self control for a day, never mind a long lifetime & with all the background & historical knowledge the Queen (real or fictionalised) must have. Thought provoking, as well as fun.

a surprising delight

Her majesty, portrayed as an intelligent, perspicacious, emotionally intelligent and hard working woman who uses the excellent staff with which she surrounds herself, to quietly solve the mysteries and crimes in her castles and palaces.

Respectfully drawn the the cast of these novels blossom into likeable fully formed people. Clearly edited for sensitivity issues like sexism, racism and homophobia are dealt with appropriately and clearly shown to be unacceptable.

But the real surprise is the gritty, fast-paced murder mystery at the heart of the book.

Enormous fun, no punches pulled.

Delightful

A delightful and light sequel to A Windsor Knot. HM is a first rate detective and Rosie and excellent Dr Watson. Genuine, empathic and fun.

Enjoyable listening!

I am listening to this a few months after the Queen died. It makes it poignant and a more memorable story. Quite nostalgic. I enjoyed the mysteries and how it was solved. I will definitely listen to the rest.

Fantastic story.. and superb narration

Brilliantly written. Great story, excellent attention to detail and all loose ends tied up. Well researched. Superb narration. Subtle.
Characterisation very good. Little snippets of entertaining Royal Family detail which are quite fun. Relaxing and absorbing by turn.
