Summary
When 14-year-old Zoe Johnson doesn't come home on a Monday night in early December, the alarm bells in Kings Lake Central police station do not ring straight away - after all, she's from the Dockmills, one of the toughest estates in the town.
But for Detective Sergeant DC Smith, due to retire in just three weeks' time, there are some strange echoes of the case that has haunted him for the past 13 years. Maybe it's simply his over-developed sense of irony, or maybe, in his final days as a police officer, Smith must look once more into the eyes of a serial killer.

Great story! Wonderful reading
This series has grown on me so much even while I'm writing this review I'm downloading the next book. Surely there must be a TV series in stories of this quality but it might be best left in case you end up with a lesser product. I am dreading the end of the books because I'll be comparing everything with these books. Thanks so much.

Brilliant characters
Completely captivated by DC and his team. The stories and characters were all believable and well thought out. The narrator was a perfect choice. I feel like I’ve lost a friend.

Is it the end ? Please say it ain’t so
I have this whole series and have loved these books .I hope this is not the end !!! This book was a great listen just like the others in the series .DC is a wonderful character a little old fashioned but an experienced detective sergeant investigating his last case before he retires.

Fabulous DC Smith
Oh how I love this man. Enjoyed this final book in the series or though I hope there wi ll be more. I have loved every book in this series and DC Smith has found a little place in my heart. Please, please let there be more in this series. Don’t let it end now. Maybe early Smith or Private investigator Smith. Not sure I can do without him. Loved the narrator Gildart Jackson I can picture Smith perfectly. These books would make a great TV series. Fabulous story.

Another tightly told story which builds the tension throughout; very well read as usual by Gildart Jackson. Just so pleased there's another book in the series....

engrossed from the start
like to listen when I'm out walking and this book had me doing ten miles a day. Great character and a lovely pace with introspection threaded through. excellent

Excellent series
Good stories and brilliant narrator, I found this series on the included plus library thinking I would save my purchased stories for my holiday. I ended up saving this series for hols!

A fabulous story which had me in tears
PG is such a talented writer. This story was So emotional and heartfelt. In the last few chapters I was shouting out advice to DC! 🙄😁. I'm sort of dreading what the next story will bring.
