Summary

Hugh and his men are faced with fighting creatures only thought to live in legend but which have been brought to Earth by evil bent on annihilating all the realms. That is Hugh's life - and he loves it. At least he did until he found himself staring into the angelic, innocent face of Lady Mina of Stone Crest.

In all the time he has led the Shields Hugh has trusted his instinct to keep his men alive, yet now he doesn't know what to believe. Everything points to Mina as the evil summoning the creatures, but she proclaims her innocence. He should be able to see through her lies, if she is indeed lying, but his attraction to her blinds him to even that. The last time he found myself so drawn to a woman, it nearly cost him the lives of his men. Hugh cannot allow that to happen again. He won't allow that to happen again. Yet every time she looks at him, begging him with those blue-green eyes to believe her, he finds himself sinking further under her spell. Her mouth is a temptation mortal men will never know, and her love will either bring him the peace he thought he'd never find - or the death he's managed, thus far, to avoid.

Decent story

The poor villagers were like cardboard cutouts, not a brain or description between them. The story outline was interesting and it bowled along, so worth a listen, despite a couple of ‘no-one is that daft’ moments. I think 3 stars a bit harsh, but didn’t think it merited 4.

could not put this down

Where does A Dark Guardian rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

one of my top reads

Who was your favorite character and why?

hugh, because of the way he commands without being over bearing and i like his humou8r

Which character – as performed by Antony Ferguson – was your favourite?

hugh, val

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

guardians of the shield

Any additional comments?

this one of my favourite reads this year, from the minute i tu7rned the book on i read it til the end and finished in only a few days. the charactors are varied and well defined and the relationships between charactors fully formed. i found that fact that you only learn small bits of the shields history intreaging and a real twist on the fnatays gondra.

Mildly entertaining

Not the most profound story ever, and the plot had more holes than Swiss cheese. The premise was good, it’s just a shame that the MMC was written to be so dense, as it could have been so much better. Nonetheless, there were some decent moments, a bit of spice, and I quite liked the FMC, as she had guts and determination

The narrator did a good job with what he had, and I enjoyed listening to his voice

hidden gem

I can't believe this has no reviews yet, especially after being on here for a while. if you are looking for a romance from days of old where knights were brave and knew how to treat women with some Fae/demon thrown in and little bit of spice to sweeten the pot, then this series is for you. I'm very please the series is in the 'included titles' and I'll definitely be continuing the story. I'm looking forward to hearing Rodericks story of going to the future and the reaction of the female leads at going back into the past.
I'm not usually a fan of a single narrator doing both male and female roles, however the performance was great with the narrator switching between the different characters.
