Terry Newman is a former medical research scientist who came into writing via comedy scriptwriting for the BBC and Channel 4. This part-time interest developed into a fully-fledged occupation and he finally hung up his microscope for good in 2004. Since then he has written extensively, scripts and books, both drama and comedy, for live action, stage, animation and games. After assisting a number of writers with their film and stage projects, he unexpectedly also found himself in demand as a script doctor and dramaturge and then as a personal script writing tutor. As a former university lecturer (in cell biology), he was pleased to be asked to design and teach the scriptwriting component of the new Broadcast Media degree for the University of Brighton. One film he worked on 'Chasing Robert Barker' was awarded 'Best Action Feature' at the UK National Film Awards in 2016. A game he is helping to write 'Qinoto' was awarded 'Best Game Design' at the Taipei Game Show in 2018. His first novel, the comic detective fantasy DETECTIVE STRONGOAK AND THE CASE OF THE DEAD ELF was A KINDLE Epic Fantasy #1 Bestseller. Nicely Strongoak's adventures continued in 'The King of Elfland's Little Sister' and 'Dwarf Girls Don't Dance'. His latest book 'Chaucere' is the first in the Camelot Noir series and features Sword-for-Hire and Investigator Chaucere's in a very different version of King Arthur's Camelot. Working with writer, composer and cardiologist David Alter, as Dalter T Newman, they published the satirical SF novel ‘The Resurrection Show’ inspired by the songs of ‘Resurrection’, a new concept album by David, comprised of music and lyrics exploring the intersection of religion, humanity and tolerance. His other musical work includes 'Mile Hile' and the studio cast album for Terry's new musical, written with composer Ben Durkin, 'Guy Fawkes' is now available online. His latest musical is 'Rusted Stars' which premieres 2023. Terry also writes books for children - available on Amazon - and children's animation as well.
