Nicholas Gates is a naturalist, broadcaster and producer. He studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge before moving to Bristol to pursue a career in documentary film-making. He has made shows for the BBC, National Geographic and Animal Planet amongst others and has been fortunate enough to direct Sir David Attenborough. In his spare time, Nick is a passionate wildlife gardener and continually enjoys spending time out in the field to learn more about the natural world around him. Nick has co-authored his first book 'Orchard' with his good friend Benedict Macdonald. This book seeks to prove that it is absolutely possible for human-shaped habitats to become wildlife havens, as long as we allow the creatures to share our spaces. Following a year in the life of one particular old orchard that Ben and Nick have studied for many years, it reveals the intricate lives of the many different species that thrive there.
