Summary

A prequel novella set in the Dominus universe by JP Kenwood.

As a lifelong passion continues to fade, another love deepens...two stand-alone m/m stories of love, lust, and friendship in ancient Rome.

February: Home from the first war against the kingdom of Dacia, Gaius Fabius ignores his obligations in Rome and returns to his secluded seaside villa in Southern Italy. Under the pretense of a holiday trip, his best friend and secret lover, Lucius Petronius, surprises him with an unexpected visit. Later that evening, the lusty masters share the delights of Gaius’s blond pleasure slave, Nicomedes.

December: With whispers of an embezzlement scandal floating through the capital, Lucius Petronius and his beloved concubine, Bryaxis, celebrate the raucous winter solstice festival of the Saturnalia with Luc’s family. After a joy-filled evening of food, gifts, and stories, Lucius and Bryaxis reverse roles in the master chamber.

Warning: Explicit language, filthy loving, and daft shenanigans.

Adds depth to the series

These can certainly be enjoyed as standalone stories, but they really shine if you are familiar with the characters from the series. Here we get a deeper insight into the relationships men are allowed to have with each other and with their slaves. There is plenty of steam, but Hannibal Hills' performance lets us feel the deeper emotions, particularly those between Gaius and Lucius whose relationship has changed as they have aged and the one that now exists between Lucius and Bryaxis.

A lovely addition to the series

These two shortish stories are sort of prequels to the Dominus series. They could be read as standalones, but it was great already knowing what the future holds for these characters and their relationships. It was lovely to have additional interaction between Lucius and Gaius, as well as with Bryaxis. The stories—and they are stories—contain some smoking hot scenes as well.

Fabulously narrated by Hannibal as always. He does such a great job with the various character voices and portrays their personalities and emotions superbly. Loved it!

Interesting characters

I've been interested in JP Kenwood's Dominius series for some time, and since I'm an audiobook fan, February and December was the perfect opportunity to get acquainted with the series. I really like JP Kenwood's writing style. The story is written in a light-hearted manner and despite the brevity of this audiobook, the characters are well drawn.

I enjoyed the brief glimpse into Rome's ancient world. In the first part, things heat up between friends Gaius and Lucius and slave Nic. However, I became curious about Gaius and Nic's relationship and I would love to learn more the two of them.
The second section is no less hot. And despite the steamy scenes, there is enough historical action or rites that it is fun to listen to this audiobook.

Hannibal Hills, the narrator, was new to me. It took me a bit to get used to him at first, but then it was fine for me. He reads the intonations skillfully and brings the story to life.

I want to hear more from this series because this short story has me curious.

I requested a free copy of the audiobook and this is my honest opinion that I am volunteering.

Great Story & Narration🎧 A Steamy Delight!

It is great to get a taste of the fabulous world J.P. Kenwood has created in this wonderfully steamy and delightful novella that comprises two different short stories, both set at different times in the “Dominus” world. This is a prequel to that series but I would consider it is just a taste, sure it may be more beneficial to those who are already familiar with the world and characters but I feel it is easily enjoyable if you haven’t, it will probably pique your interest in the series, wanting to know more. The first story “February” is Gaius Fabius getting together with his best friend, Lucius Petronius, they rarely get to see each other and enjoy each other’s company. Gaius has his pleasure slave, Nicomedes, join them for an evening of pleasure. The second story “December” Lucius Petronius and his family, friends and household help is celebrating Saturnalia, nearing the end of the festivities Lucius invites his concubine Bryaxis back to his chambers for a steamy evening together. I enjoyed both stories, Ms. Kenwood is a gifted author and has a way with words, each story is well-written and plotted and contains an impressive amount of details. I am looking forward to visiting the Dominus world again for more action and steamy delightfulness. J.P. Kenwood thank you for this enjoyable delight of a novella.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Hannibal Hills does an awesome job bringing the characters and their story to life, he gives each character their own voice and personality, which makes it easy to follow along and tell who is who. He has a complete understanding of the characters he portrays, sounds believable in every role and just as I picture them to sound. He sets the perfect tone for the story, captures all the characters’ emotions, as well as their passion, and projects it all into his performance. Hannibal Hills is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this fantastic listen.

amazing!

I love love this series and I adore these characters! It was absolutely amazing to read more stories about them.

The first story is about Gaius and Lucius. I loved learning more about their history and their complicated relationship.  I really like them together and Lucius is just so much fun.

The second story is about Lucius and Bry. It was festive and fun and I could read a separate book with just the two of them. They are a favorite couple.

I adored this book. And I loved how the narrator brought it to life. Perfect!

I loved it!

Story: Entertaining glimpse into the ancient history times with interesting characters and amazing attention to details. The picture the author builds is a great proof of the vast research that went into the process and the writing skills are undeniable. I really like the characters we meet. They are imperfect, very human and complex. Just what you need.
Narration: Hannibal Hills was a great choice for this one. The performance is intense, but very fitting the scene and the characters.
