This audiobook is passionately and evocatively read by the author, Heidi Mavir.

An updated edition of the Sunday Times bestseller.

Your Child Is Not Broken is THE book for parents who need permission to do things differently.

An unapologetic, deeply moving manual for parents of neurodivergent children from Heidi Mavir, a late-identified, neurodivergent adult and parent to an autistic/ADHD teenager.

This updated edition includes information on Pathological Demand Avoidance, Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria, an interview with Heidi's son Theo and more.

Follow Heidi's irreverent and brutally honest story of her fight to be seen, heard and supported, while swimming against a tide of parent blame, ableist stereotypes and the weight of other people’s opinions.

Your Child Is Not Broken is a call to arms for parents and carers of autistic, ADHD, or otherwise neurodivergent children. It is the book that no one has dared to write but every parent needs to read. Heidi’s hilarious anecdotes and heartbreaking storytelling offer validation, comfort, reassurance and wisdom to parents who need it the most.

It all rang true unfortunately but the thinking and realisations which you explained so well were helpful. Good to feel we aren’t alone in all these experiences. Like you, our family is experiencing its own ND awakening. Appreciated House of Cards poem and been trying to find it online for our kitchen wall. It sums up our day to day perfectly!

Authentic and Brilliantly written

I never, ever leave reviews - but I had to with this book. I have cried throughout, feeling like someone finally ‘gets’ my ND experience with my child.
Thank you for cutting through the nonsense, and sharing your journey with us. It has been a total revelation and I’ve recommended it to all my ND parent friends.

A life saver

This is a very helpful book for people starting out on their child’s ASD journey. It outlines how parents might feel isolated, lost or blamed for their child’s diagnosis. I liked the down-to-earth and straightforward style. It gives some advice on dealing with professionals and becoming comfortable with a diagnosis, formal or informal, of ASD and touches on elements of behaviours that might indicate such a diagnosis. If you are looking for in-depth advice or information on indicators of ASD and how to manage them, this is not the book for you. If you are looking for an introductory guide to ASD and how to understand the world in relation to that, including the many barriers. I would recommend this book.

A good basic guide to neurodiversity
