Chronos, god of Time, and creator of the Universe, wants to destroy Eternity.

A mysterious immortal seeks vengeance.

And a reclusive Olympian deity does what no god should ever do: She answers a prayer.

As punishment, she is stripped of her powers and trapped in a mortal's body. Now a Wyrd - a fated god - she is haunted by the memories and thoughts of her host and must hide her true identity in order to survive in Niflheim, the rival Norse Underworld.

There she discovers the afterlife is not quite what it used to be. Niflheim's new ruler threatens the precarious balance of a world overrun with outcast deities and mortals alike.

To save her own sanity and find her way back to the stars, she must help the other Wyrd overcome their grievances to defeat this enemy, but those who would be her allies appear to have motives as hidden as her fragmented consciousness.

And yet it seems the greatest threat to her freedom comes from within, and the prize it seeks is her immortal soul....

A whirlwind of scheming gods and mortals seeking either to go toe to toe with their deities or desperately trying to survive in a world sundered by their joint abuses. Wyrd Gods adds a whole new spin not just to the usual Fantasy novel tropes but also to our myths and legends of old.

Thrown into this pandaemonium are two beings, one a god who used to be human and one a dryad from another time. At odds with each other yet with their fates and their very beings inextricably entwined, they struggle for the dominance of self as they also strive to make sense of the world they find themselves in (at once familiar and yet terrifyingly changed). The implications of their situation may be further reaching than either could guess...

Fast paced, witty and sharp, this adventure is a must listen for anyone who is a fan of mythology (classic or contemporary) and has ever had an argument with that voice in their head and not been sure exactly who came out on top!

Having read the book first I can say Sarah Kempton's narration fits the tone and rythm of the text perfectly, her characterisations are identifiably engaging and she hits those points of wry humour and introspection with accurate subtlety.

I suck at writing reviews but enjoyed listening to this audiobook, it got me hooked from the beginning wanting to know what had happened and what was happening. Loved the world it was set in felt dream like at times. Liked that it was both Greek and Norse gods/mythologies and some Egyptian. Narrator was excellent and brought characters to life. Loved the main character and her interactions with Ilenana

Great book
