Özet

The passionate and tragic story of Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff is one of the high points of 19th-century Romantic literature. In the relationship of Cathy and Heathcliff, and in the wild, bleak Yorkshire Moors of its setting, Wuthering Heights creates a world of its own, conceived with a disregard for convention and an instinct for poetry and the darkest depths of the human soul in torment.

Everything about this production was superb. I have never heard another reading of this great novel as beautiful as that given by Patricia Routledge. I was there in the story with all the characters and I cannot recommend this audible tape highly enough. If you have ever struggled with Wuthering Heights this is the version for you and if you already loved it you will discover something new. Superb

What made the experience of listening to Wuthering Heights the most enjoyable?

Patricia Routledge's reading was absolutely spellbinding. Her interpretation of the different characters brilliant - all the characters' voices were separate and distinct.

Have you listened to any of Patricia Routledge’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I haven't heard any other Patricia Routledge's performances but will definitely seek them out.

Brilliant reading and interpretation

I have previously listened to the abridged version, and this one with more detail is more harrowing, but a really good story nonetheless.

I like Patricia Routledge very much but do not feel that she is suited to this particular story - I found her voice 'wrong' and her histrionics a little over the top. I know I am probably alone in this opinion as many reviews comment favourably on her narration.

Overall though very enjoyable.

An old favourite

Brilliant narration of a wonderful classic, Patricia Routledge brings these characters to life in a way that only she could. I was hooked from beginning to end.

A joy to listen to

Very well read. Themes of cruelty run throughout. The author seemed well acquainted with domestic violence. How youthful relationships can go wrong.
