Two cycles have passed since Ryuu lost his adopted father, and he dares to hope that he's found peace at last. But nightblades live by the sword, and when a new breed of warrior threatens the Southern Kingdom, Ryuu and Moriko are pulled to opposite edges of the known world to uncover mysteries that have lain dormant for hundreds of cycles.

As the three kingdoms descend into chaos, the two nightblades must decide what they stand for. There's no place to hide, and the secrets they reveal will have the power to change the world forever.

This one was about as good as the sequel. I found myself interested enough to continue listening but felt that the repetition of the same things about sword battles again and again left me dry.

I have seen it in other books like David Dalgleish ones where the combatants just keep getting faster and more impossibly skillful and it becomes hard to swallow after a while. This didn't have the depth of the Dalgleish books to compensate for the lack of ingenuity in the descriptions of battle

I don't think I would recommend this series unfortunately. Not bad enough to ask for my credit back but I wouldn't choose it again

I should have loved this....but I didn't

The writing is basic, even clumsy sometimes. The story is more of a Hollywood blockbuster than something more refined, intricate, unexpected, multi-layered. There's an army of 10,000 on some planes with so little food that one person with magic powers to sense animals can barely survive etc etc It's all silly, and yet highly enjoyable!

Enjoyable fun
