Ever since my parents died in the demon war, I've paid my way through life by using magic to con people. It's not right, but a girl's gotta do what she can to survive.

Unfortunately, my latest con has left me smack dab in the middle of a murder scene. Now, a coven of angry mages thinks I'm the killer. In order to clear my name, I have to team up with an infuriatingly sexy warlock whose powers are far darker than he admits. Throw in a string of related murders and a vexed vampire clan, and I'm up to my eyeballs in danger.

But that's not even the worst of it. When I get too close to the real killer, he casts a life-threatening curse on my grandmother. Before, I just wanted to save my own butt, but now I'll do whatever it takes to track him down - even if it means following him through monstrous dimensions.

Because I don't play nice with magic. And when you mess with Grandma, you become number one on my shit list.

I enjoyed the audio book but unfortunately it felt very much by the numbers. The performance by Piper elevated everything by quite a lot but in the end I couldnt give it a higher rating. The main character acted so dumbly Im suprised they could get out of bed with total petulance and rushing into situations that she blatently couldnt cope with in an idiotic manner. It was as if she wanted to commit suicide every 5 minutes. The brooding relationship with her partner was fairly decent but even that had multiple repeated "I dont trust you" moments even though he had saved her around 5 times. Hopefully the sequels are a bit better but I think Im out.

I trip over bad one here and there, but this one may be top 10 worst I can remember ever. The heroine is so stupid, I am ashamed to be same gender. I think the author started to write without knowing where is she going with it- a bit less daydreaming Ms. Wolfhart- try for heroine which is your best friend who you admire, not a 12 year old 'imagination of self', Also, the ´F´ word- completely in wrong spots and therefore unnecessary.

This is baaaaaaaad...

If you're a fan of this genre who's keen on the relentless repetition of the familiar, then I guess you may enjoy it. I was hoping for more urban fantasy when audible recommended it to me. Either way, nothing original or outstanding. Lacking in plot and full-bodied characters, but obviously the events serve only as a vehicle for the budding romance. I find it difficult to listen if I can't hear anything but cliches. Heroine is surprised something had happened to the hero in Europe when "he has an American accent". Travel, I suppose? Even considering restrains of the genre (often self inflicted by the authors), there are far better and enjoyable examples.

Just another run of the mill paranormal romance
