Hundreds of years after a race of magical beings called dindeary have taken over most of the world Corporal Clark Jameson is graduating from the Human Empire’s military academy after four years of grueling work. As a common born orphan from a small town too close to the border for anyone’s comfort Clark knows that he doesn’t have many prospects until, on the night before his future unit is to be decided he meets a strange pair of men who belong to the infamous Squad 42: Adam Milson, a sexy blonde that makes Clark’s blood run hot, and Harry Browning, the mysterious swordsman carrying one of the 13 magical swords which the dindeary will do anything to reclaim.

He never expected to see them again, especially considering Adam Milson was the heir to one of the most wealthy provinces but the next day he is called before all three of the members of Squad 42 and is offered the opportunity to try and wield Harry’s sword, Linsgarum. But Clark was a commoner, he couldn’t wield a sentient blade that burned any who were deemed unworthy, could he?

What a gem, I loved everything about it. The story was amazing so new unlike any other supernatural book. There is romance, action and hot scenes 🔥. I can’t recommend enough 👍👍👍

An absolute gem of a book.

Tried this book on a whim. I usually read historical M/M novels so a good fantasy- dystopia future one was long overdue a try. The thing that got me hooked surprisingly wasnt the romance. Don't get me wrong: the characters of Adam and Clark are compelling and fun, but I like a little more pining in my soup. It was also a little confusing as a log of the characters were referred to by their hair colour and there were a lot of blondes so it got a little confusing in the middle.
What did get me was the unique worldbuilding. The sentient swords, the post-apocalyptic future that feels more like military fantasy, the concept of human empire vs the outside. That was fun. I am also extremely intrigued by Harry!

Going on to Book2. A little disappointed that the book was so short (it was a lot of setup which is understandable) but such is life.

An intriguing start

I really enjoyed this series. As a lore nerd, I would have loved more expansion on some of the details. If you're confused by the random people popping up, just stick with it, it does make sense as you go along.

I enjoyed the book. Although the story was set far into the future, it reminded me a little of medieval times combined with sci fi and light fantasy. Sometimes, the book would suddenly bring in characters with no clear explanations as to who they are. Later in the scene you realise they will probably play a role in the story in the future. The main thing I question is why throughout the book the author would mention the characters by description. Clark would be mentioned by name then during the scene he would be called the blonde man. Adam would be called Adam then during the scene he was the blonde man. Harry, who was described as having the complexion of a walnut, would be called the dark skinned man. I can understand this description when the characters are first introduced. It allows the reader/listener to imagine how the characters look. But when you have read about the characters throughout the book and during the final scenes of the book the author has the main character looking over and seeing "the ginger and the dark-skinned man were still in conversation." This type of description was stated throughout the entirety of the book for characters you already knew well and were main characters. Aside from this, I enjoyed the book. Narration wasn't bad. Not great but still decent. I enjoyed the book enough that I am going to read the next in the series.

Good book

It’s really all over the place, can’t tell who the random characters are and what it’s about, I normally easily follow but this was just all over

I could not tell you what this book was about and who was who
