The instant New York Times bestseller

'Ms. Sandberg was right about something. We had to lean in. It was the only way to hear the whispers...'

Sloane, Ardie, Grace and Rosalita have worked in the same legal office for years. The sudden death of the firm's CEO means their boss, Ames, will likely take over the entire company. Each of the women has a different relationship with Ames, who has always been surrounded by whispers about how he treats women. Those whispers have been ignored, swept under the rug, hidden away by those in charge.

But the world has changed, and the women are watching this latest promotion for Ames differently.

This time, they've decided enough is enough.

Sloane and her colleagues' decision to take a stand sets in motion something catastrophic and unstoppable: lies will be uncovered, secrets will be exposed and not everyone will survive. All their lives - as women, colleagues, mothers, adversaries - will be changed for ever.

"Add another great book to your beach bag! This story has a workplace murder mystery that happens in today's #MeToo era. It's honest, timely and completely thrilling - I was so surprised to find out who the murderer was!" (Reese Witherspoon)

"It's The Firm meets 9 To 5. This is a juicy air-punch of a novel." (Alexandra Heminsley, Grazia)

"Slick, smart, fierce, it's Big Little Lies set against attorneys and recast in the light of #MeToo. Relevant, resonant and rage inducing." (Sarah Vaughan)

Very well written and beautifully narrated, although it took some time to get into it.

It was difficult in the beginning chapters when the characters were being introduced, I had to keep going over it and I had to concentrate to make sense.

It was unnecessarily long in my opinion.

Very good

Easy to think the subject matter could be a little far fetched but sadly I think it's a fair reflection on the challenges that women face in society. Not the best book I've listened to, but it certainly engaged me the further in I got. Worth a listen.

Gets better the further you get into the story.

Though not the best listen I have had during this lockdown - it kept me interested and had a few plot twists along the way. I enjoy American fiction and also a bit of ‘feminist’ lit. This novel explored the challenges faced by women in the workplace. At times I was confused as to who was speaking and I felt the characters could have had more development.

Kept me listening

Loved it, addictive listening. I'll listen again in a few weeks and recommend to friends.

Excellent narrative

Initially found this a bit difficult to get into…really liked the exploration of gender politics in the workplace & school but found the monologues at the start of each chapter a bit distracting from the plot. Struggled to warm to the characters at first but again glad I stuck with it. Could listen to that Southern American accent all day.

Worth preserving
