The new Rivers of London novella, from Sunday Times number one best-selling author Ben Aaronovitch.

Ghost hunter, fox whisperer, troublemaker.

It is the summer of 2013, and Abigail Kamara has been left to her own devices. This might, by those who know her, be considered a mistake. While her cousin, police constable and apprentice wizard Peter Grant, is off in the sticks, chasing unicorns, Abigail is chasing her own mystery. Teenagers around Hampstead Heath have been going missing but before the police can get fully engaged, the teens return home - unharmed but vague about where they've been.

Aided only by her new friend Simon, her knowledge that magic is real, and a posse of talking foxes that think they're spies, Abigail must venture into the wilds of Hampstead to discover who is luring the teenagers and more importantly - why?

At last Abigail (and the foxes) get a starring turn. some real humour as well as one or two creepy moments. Hopefully we will hear more of Abigail and her companions in the not too distant future.
Mind you this is such a rich world that has been created I look forward to more from this world.
I didn't think the narration was up to the same level as the Rivers books or indeed the level of October Man.

Abigail's Adventures amaze

Not a great narrator. And the start of every chapter is missing! Story not one of BA’s best...

The start of EVERY chapter is missing!!

Not sure why these are appearing rather than continuing the main series. Well written but just *so* annoying the occasional small asides to explain terminology to American listeners! Please remove!

Why the distraction?

Good narration, a nice change in perspective viewing the world from Abigail's. Would live to see this as a Dr Who type series

the best short story from Ben Arronovitch
