Özet

Brought to you by Penguin.

The brand new epic romantasy series from the author of A Court This Cruel and Lovely, perfect for fans of Carissa Broadbent, Jasmine Mas, and Rebecca Yarros.

Narrated in duet style.

Life in the perilous Thorn district is a constant battle for Arvelle and her younger brothers.

Faced with an unthinkable choice, Arvelle makes a magically binding vow to do the impossible: kill the emperor, an ancient vampire created by the god Umbros.

But first, she must enter the Sundering—an arena where only the fastest, strongest, and deadliest survive long enough to be selected for the emperor’s elite guard.

As stakes rise and secrets emerge, she quickly draws the ire of the Primus, the powerful figure charged with protecting the emperor––while also finding herself depending on the enemy to hone her power ... The emporor's vampiric son.

To survive the arena and complete her mission, Arvelle must get to the bottom of a conspiracy that will change everything she thought she knew about herself—and the two vampires who are deeply entwined with her destiny…

This was an excellent dual pov narrated audiobook. I especially liked the female narrator as she had a great range.👏

Arvelle has been raising her younger twin brothers for years. Their lives are hard, and they barely scrape by, especially with the emperor always raising their taxes! Plus, one of her brothers has damaged lungs that are killing him.😢

One of the noble vampires blackmails her by buying up all of the tonic her brother needs, then promises to heal him permanently if she enters a type of trial, then assassinates the emperor 😳 She tries everything to get out of it but is left with watching him suffocate or taking the deal!💔

She is slower, weaker, and has a lot less training than every other entrant. She'll need to train like hell and pray for miracles. What she doesn't expect is to attract the attention of two of the most powerful vampires in the palace. One wants her gone from the trials, and the other wants her dead.💥

Much more is at play than anyone realises. People are trying to raise old gods, brothers are being pitted against each other, and betrayals are around every corner!🥺🩸

This kept me on the edge of my seat. I can't wait for book two.👏

I loved the FMC narration, the plot and how mixing vampires, magic and Greek vibes all worked so well. I will be preordering the next book. it is slightly predictable but if you enjoy ACOTR, Kingfisher etc a must read.

A must read.

There was a lot of build up around this book and I was hoping that it wasn’t just all talk and the book didn’t just fall flat. Let me TELL you - there was NOTHING flat about this book! I love the vibes - vampires and magic and gladiators and trials and a love triangle!? I think. I’m not even sure at this point 😂. Not crazy spice but enough to keep you very entertained! Vampire gladiators is a great explanation haha. Some good plot twists and I cannot wait for the next book!!

Amazing Naration!

I enjoyed the overall bones of the story - the two brothers dynamic was full of tension and very vampire diaries-esque. But the structure of the plot and the writing itself was a bit of a mess. I hope the second book gets a few more edits before its release.

The bones of the story were good
