Twelve years ago, Edwin Tully came to Oxford and fell in love with a boy named Marius. He was brilliant, an artist. It was going to be forever. Ten years later, it ended. Now Edwin lives alone in the house they used to share. He tends to damaged books and faded memories, trying to build a future from the fragments of the past. Then the weather turns, and the river spills into Edwins quiet world, bringing with it Adam Dacre from the Environment Agency. An unlikely knight, this stranger with roughened hands and worn wellingtons offers Edwin the hope of something he thought he would never have again. As the two men grow closer in their struggle against the rising waters, Edwin learns he cant protect himself from everythingand sometimes he doesn't need to try. Because love doesnt only leave scars; oftentimes, it heals them too. This lyrical, moving LGBTQIA+ romance contains never-before-seen content and exclusive bonus materialincluding a NEW novella, Chasing the Light, following Marius as he rediscovers love and the complicated joy of being truly alive. Some of Hall’s best, most poetic and tender writing, humour and affection. Loved it, and the narrator was excellent.

Superbly read

Waiting for the flood is Alexis Hall's subtle, inconspicuous masterpiece. It feels like each word is carefully selected, each sentence tenderly and meticulously crafted, and the result - a sweepingly heartbreaking, authentic, and deeply relatable story of a quiet, subtle and inconspicuous man, who is just as much of a masterpiece as the story itself - will sweep you off your feet. Will Watt is one the best narrators there are and his choice of tone, pace and timbre is always strikingly on point.

Chasing the light and Aftermath that lovingly accompany the original novella in this edition function as a healing ointment to the raw skin of an emotional turmoil Waiting for the flood causes you and shows you that love, indeed, can last forever, even if it changes shapes. Yet it still runs, in Hall's words, like "glitter through the quartz" of one's life.

This will be my forever go-back-to book, thanks to which the colours of the world are deeper and each moment a little bit more precious.

The best author & narrator combination ever

I read Waiting for the Flood some years ago, and loved it, so it was wonderful to revisit it with an audio version. I hadn't read Marius' story, so it was lovely to hear that, and the bonus content was hilarious. Alexis is a fine writer, and this was beautifully written, of course. It seems impossible that Will Watt could elevate the stories even more with his narration, but he really did. He's just perfect for this, reading it with lots of lovely, quiet emotion, which I think is just what the characters needed. And his array of accents was most impressive! Highly recommended.
