Soho, 1935.

Sergeant Leon Geats' Patch.

A snarling, skull-cracking misanthrope, Geats marshals the grimy rabble according to his own elastic moral code.

The narrow alleys are brimming with jazz bars, bookies, black-shirts, ponces and tarts, so when a body is found above the Windmill Club, detectives are content to dismiss the case as just another young woman who topped herself early.

But Geats - a good man prepared to be a bad one if it keeps the worst of them at bay - knows the dark seams of the city.

Working with his former partner, mercenary Flying Squad Sergeant Mark Cassar, Geats obsessively dedicates himself to finding a warped killer - a decision that will reverberate for a lifetime and transform both men in ways they could never expect.

Eleştirmen yorumları

"An epic, brutal, blockbuster of a crime novel. It's the best film noir you've never seen complete with a love story that might just rip your heart out." (Trevor Wood)

"Nolan achieves that almost mythical balance of breathtakingly poetic prose and high stakes drama." (Victoria Selman)

Great listen with believable characters, a complex and twisty plot, evocative noir period recreation and brilliant narration.

Gripping thriller

Loved the story, the picture of Soho in the 30s and 40s and the characters. It’s quite grim but remarkable in its scale and depth. Excellent narration too. Highly recommended - although not if you’re looking for relaxing bedtime reading.

Brilliant

LOVED IT!
I have to admit when I started it I found it a bit of a slow burn. For the first time ever I found distinguishing the different characters a little tricky. STICK WITH IT!
Brilliant story and also I love the way it captures the beauty of friendships.
What a craftsman as such an excellent story.

Gets better and better!
