Jackson Blackwell, the former Shadow Master and minor god… is dead. His empire has been toppled, his entourage dispersed, and his stain upon the cosmic landscape wiped clean. Well… that's exactly what Jackson, the newly graduated Titan, wants Eris Pence, Sophia, and the gods of the multiverse to think.

After two years of secret training, Jackson is ready to begin his rampage of sweet revenge. The only things standing between him and his dark desires are a few pesky personality tests and a Titan named "Frank."

VILLAINS RETURN is the fifth book in the award-winning Shadow Master series and something of a whirlwind tour of Jackson's greatest hits. This action-packed dark comedy harkens back to several beloved locations, ties up more than a few loose ends, and forces Jackson to see beyond his immediate goals. Growth, it seems, can come at any stage in a person's life. Even for a villain.

I was skeptical on how stakes could be raised after becoming a super god, but he did it… and while talking about his grandfather ballsacks…

Great and terribly funny

Jackson Blackwell is back and better than ever. While the story didn't pan out as the rip-roaring rampage of revenge that I assumed it would be, I still thoroughly enjoyed my time with this one. This go around The Shadow Master pokes fun at certain genres desperation to stay relevant as time marches on, and I found the end result to be pretty funny. Jefferey Kafer was entertaining as always and I really hope that any potential sequels include a blooper reel because the idea to include them this time was fantastic.

Also, I'm not sure if it was entirely a joke but you really don't need to apologize for the length of time it took to release this installment. Good things take time, and I'd much rather wait a few years for a good story than get a lower quality yearly release like those certain videogame titles that are clearly just doing the motions at this point. You know the ones I'm talking about.

Possibly the best one yet
