Private Detective Cormoran Strike is visiting his family in Cornwall when he is approached by a woman asking for help finding her mother, Margot Bamborough - who went missing in mysterious circumstances in 1974. Strike has never tackled a cold case before, let alone one 40 years old. But despite the slim chance of success, he is intrigued and takes it on; adding to the long list of cases that he and his partner in the agency, Robin Ellacott, are currently working on.

Robin herself is juggling a messy divorce and unwanted male attention, as well as battling her own feelings about Strike. As Strike and Robin investigate Margot's disappearance, they come up against a fiendishly complex case with leads that include tarot cards, a psychopathic serial killer and witnesses who cannot all be trusted. And they learn that even cases decades old can prove to be deadly....

A breathtaking, labyrinthine epic, Troubled Blood is the fifth Strike and Robin novel and the most gripping and satisfying yet.

A character called Ilsa that has been pronounced correctly by the same narrator for all the other books...now calls her Isla!! And a few other miss pronunciations like Troy instead of Croy...sounds like autocorrect to me...deeply frustrating and there is some skipping in chapters 2 and 6. Great book though!

Why is Ilsa now Isla!

Please don’t take on board the negative and borderline offensive reviews of this book as it is the best Strike book so far. The author has a wonderful talent of building the story through character and detail. I really enjoyed it and will certainly be buying the next one!
Also Robert Glenister is a fantastic narrator and really does a wonderful job of bringing the story to life :)

Fantastic Book!

I absolutely love these novels and Robert Glenister is spot on with his narration, but I’m so disappointed, he keeps calling one of the characters by the wrong name - I’m only a few chapters in and it’s so distracting! What happened!? He pronounced it correctly for the past 4 novels!

Ilsa not Isla! 🤦🏻‍♀️

I pre ordered this as I am a huge fan of Strike and Robin, and love JK's writing. I was upset by the negativity surrounding this book, but with 30 hours of adventure ahead, I just ignored it.

if you want a quick whodunit, Agatha Christie this is not. I laughed out loud, gasped, became emotional, and found a few new characters that I want to hear more from. Pat the new secretary in particular. We travel from London to Cornwall, up to Yorkshire and back again. This book takes us over an entire year at the agency. the writing never repeats, just builds on what we know and develops each person.

The narration was outstanding. I think Robert Glinister uses the voices of Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger, and I felt as though I was watching the new series on TV.

I shall listen again, and again. within 30 hours of narration here will be lots of missed the first time round.

Fabulous
